DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION caused by aswsp.sys?
« on: August 02, 2016, 01:54:36 PM »
Greetings all.  Running the latest commercial (paid-for) version of avast Internet Security.  My Windows 10 Pro 64-bit system blue-screened last night with a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error.   It created a memory dump and I ran the home edition of WhoCrashed which analyzed the dump.   This is from the report that WhoCrashed created:

crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: aswsp.sys (aswSP+0x10FDB)
Bugcheck code: 0x133 (0x1, 0x1E00, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\aswsp.sys
product: Avast Antivirus
company: AVAST Software
description: avast! self protection module
Bug check description: The DPC watchdog detected a prolonged run time at an IRQL of DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. This problem might also be caused because of overheating (thermal issue).
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: aswsp.sys (avast! self protection module, AVAST Software).
Google query: AVAST Software DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

If you in fact Google the suggested query, this issue does show up in the forum from a few years ago.

Anyone else having this issue?  I'm a survivor of the Nitro Festival we had last weekend and other than this, I'm not seeing any obvious issues with avast.

Can you please compress 'c:\windows\memory.dmp' (7z,rar) and upload it somewhere?
Or you can use our FTP: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB160

Thanks!

PK - I've uploaded both the MEMORY.DMP and minidump files to your FTP site in 7z format.  I hope you can find something useful!

PK:  Can you confirm you received the dump?   It's called memory.7z.   I went to your support site and I don't see a way to notify anyone that the dump has been uploaded?
