Chromium and avast

Hi all. Last night I was unlucky enough to install ffdshow codecs and converlite video software. 1 of these installed chromium web browser. Same icon as crappy google chrome but blue. I have got rid of as much as possible but seem to be stuck with having to make IE my default browser every time it starts and I have a chromium_test_page.htm file in Resources within the avast folder. It wont let me delete it. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this and also stop IE being made not the default browser. Avast never picked up on this malware/virus/whatever it is being installed so well done avast! I left AVG 6 years ago due to a mass failure. Thankfully this doesn't appear to be too bad.

I don't see how it's Avast fault that you failed to uncheck the add-on crap bundled in your downloaded software, Browsers also aren't malware...possibly an unwanted program more likely that maybe PUP's might detect if you have it enabled.

Run Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner and let them remove what they find

Besides what CraigB said, the file you mention has nothing to do with the installation of Chromium as you experienced.
The installation isn't even able to write files in the avast folder.

Maybe adding Unchecky to your arsenal of utilities would have prevented this crap from getting to your system
Once installed, it will certainly help you in the future.

I didn't omit to unchecking a box to allow this software to be installed. There were no check boxes. If its nothing to do with avast letting other programs write to the avast folder.... how did this file get in there? Is it an avast file?

The avast SafeZone Browser is using Chromium as engine.

You possibly had the safezone browser and that may have used it as it indicates as a test page. That said I have never installed (or had it magically appear), but I still have the file present.

It doesn't really bother me, but if you want to remove it, like other avast protected files you have to disable the avast self-defence module in the avastUI > Settings > Troubleshooting.
