August versions: 12.3.2279 + 2280
« on: August 16, 2016, 04:16:53 PM »
Hi Avastians,

we are happy to announce new versions of AVAST Antivirus (build number 12.3.2279 + 2280).

It's for these products: Free Antivirus, Pro Antivirus, Internet Security and Premier.

We introduce one new feature in this release called Passive mode, that will allow run Avast on a PC with another AV smoother. It improves a performance of such PC and solves some compatibility issues. This mode is turned on automatically if you install Avast on PC, where is installed another AV. Or user can turned it on via Settings-> Troubleshooting. Passive mode disables the resident protection but virus database is still updated and Avast is always ready to run on demand scan. All other functionality is working as usual.

What's new:

New:
Passive mode - new compatibility mode,  which should solve compatibility issues, when Avast is being installed on a pc, where other AV is installed (and registred to WSC), Most of the shields are turned off, Avast should be updatable.
Added SafeZone browser, Security browser extension and SafePrice extension to Settings->Components for better management

Fixed:
+ BSOD for Skylake processor running  Windows 10 Anniversary Update
+ Randomly opening Avast UI bug
+ SafePrice browser extension component is not installed during update when Browser extension was not installed in the previous version
+ Compatibility problems with PICO(Bash) processes on Windows 10 Anniversary Update
+ Incorrectly displaying firewall network profile notification
+ Avast is correctly recognized in Windows Security Center after upgrade to Windows Anniversary Update
+ Showing all passwords as reused in passwords list

2280 fixes:
+ Slowing down computer during installation, https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=189836.msg1332747#msg1332747
+ Unavailability to install another language during installation than the detected

What if WSC falsely thinks another av is installed ?
If avast only checks the WSC it can get false information and passive mode will be enabled leaving the system without active protection.

What if WSC falsely thinks another av is installed ?
If any othey AV is registere in wsc, reporting ON status and doesn't scan, it is a bug in other AV and we can do nothig about it.

Thanks for fixing all the bugs in the previous builds.
On a different topic, are you guys EVER gonna fix the numerous false positives avast gives? it's incredibly annoying!!!

FPs and detections for that matter are not really a program feature - that is the task of the virus definitions updates, etc. Generally they also need information, reports and sample to analyse to so it can be corrected. The virus labs guys would always be striving to improve detection without any adverse increase in FPs. I believe the last av comparatives test had zero FPs in the tests.

Zero false positives??? Are you kidding me????

Just a few examples:

Several of Nirsoft's utilities are flagged as virus.
Winrar SFX archives are flagged as virus. Just today winrar 5.40 was released and avast flagged the SFX modules as virus.
The installer for Freemake audio Converter.

Capturelibservice from freemake. The freemake updater.

Shall I continue?
And those are only a few off the top of my head.
I'm SICK of false positives. Every time one appears I report it using the GUI (it provides a "report false positive" option, and they have DONE NOTHING TO FIX THEM. I've been reporting them FOR YEARS now!

Thank-you - Downloaded off-line installer and installed over 12.2.2276 about to reboot.

Just wondering why you used the off-line installer rather that updating via the application?

I always use the Full Offline Installer .. This way I can do a full custom install and select only what I need to install.
If you do it from within the GUI, you will get things added in that you may not want.

I updated WinRar without issues here. Also installed Freemake video converter.

Some of those softwares may contain PUP installers or other adware... This is why they are "not fixed".
