What the hell have you done to avast! ? It now turns any PC into a crawl for several minutes during installation and stayed like that till I've logged out/restarted. Even my main rig with 6 core 4.5 GHz, 32GB RAM and Samsung 850 Pro 2TB. Unacceptable. And I've seen the exact same behavior on 2 other systems with Win10 Anniversary.

It's being adressed :) https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=189903.0

What if WSC falsely thinks another av is installed ?
If any othey AV is registere in wsc, reporting ON status and doesn't scan, it is a bug in other AV and we can do nothig about it.
Does this mean that Avast is content in being installed as a second fiddle AV ???
It would have been much nicer to remove or incapacitate the other AV and make Avast primary.
An interesting point, but think of it the other way round.  If you are running Avast and you try to install another AV on top of it, would you want that other AV to have the power to disable Avast and replace it?  If a program can have that power, so can a malware.  Seems a lot better for Avast to be able to co-exist and do a scan that may show problems that were missed by the other AV.  The user can then decide which AV is worth keeping.

Plus, you know how many threads over the years where users O/S are bricked because of conflicting A/Vs ?
This change will make sure Avast doesn't cause a problem with an install.
However, I think DURING install Avast should pop-up a warning that it sees another A/V....a lot of times users don't know (eg. A/V expired) or an uninstall of other A/V is not clean.
Avast should state during that pop-up the limitation Avast will be installed under if they proceed and suggestion to exit install to go clean (fully remove) other A/V.
Since Avast is doing check...this should be done first in the process.......and also give user which other A/V it sees.
This may help:

As always, great videos. :)
My point of my comment is that this is I think this would be more effective to be communicated during install.....almost first step.
My thought is many times users don't realize a other A/V can have conflict, or even that they have it installed.....example, their A/V trial has expired, etc.
Meaning........Avast tells you during install there is a conflict and will be installed in "passive" mode.
This would allow an exit of the installer and user goes and do a full clean uninstall....then comes back.....or if they choose to proceed they are aware they have selected "passive".
I REALLY like that Avast has put in this feature.......shows they are concerned about users trying to use their product and detramental effects on their PC...kudos Avast !!!!

Two libraries are crashing on your pc on illegal instruction. What processor do you have? Can you post cpu-z screenshot?

Thanks,

Updated fine to V2280 using the off line full installer this morning. But I think Avast should get rid of that "your system is unprotected" message when the problem is just an outdated program version. You still have AV protection, just not the most recent changes.

Latest bugfix update STILL doesn't honor language selection during install. Selected English US again and it yet again installed with Slovenian language. C'mon, stop breaking such trivial things ::)

EDIT:
Tried with online and offline installer. The installer itself and the intro screens are in English, but the interface is again in my native language. ::)

Also SafePrice browser extension cannot be selected for some reason in the offline installer. Not that I'd want it, it's just that checkbox doesn't work at all...

Does anyone know why is Avast free asking for registration? I remember that few years ago Avast requested free registration but later they removed it.

Registration is still a requirement (certainly on a first installation or clean reinstall), though avast have been doing some testing on registering once only in the free version. Some lucky users have found that their registration is much greater than one year, but this isn't the norm across the remainder of avast free users (like myself).

When I installed Avast for the first time on PC, it said that Avast is activated or something like that. There was no expiration date, just message that Avast is activated. Yesterday, when I opened Avast, I saw message 28 days remaining so I have activated it.  :)

On a new installation, you still have 30 days to register it doesn't have to be immediate. But presumably you would get reminders to register as you now have.

If you have previously had a my.avast.com account and you linked that installation to that my.avast.com account, I just wonder if that could be a factor.

ninja.campione: Could you please also post the full text report from cpu-z? (About page, button "Save report (TXT)"
I believe that your crashes are somehow related to running a Haswell CPU on Windows XP which does not support AVX instructions. However, I don't see any problem in our code (plus the second crash occurred in OpenSSL and it would be quite surprising to have the same bug in two unrelated pieces of code) - so I'd like to see whether the bit saying "AVX supported on this OS" is set or not; the report should show.
Thanks.
