Since I've updated to 12.3.2280, Avast Service stops by itself after a while and the Avast tray icon show unprotected status. I have to select Resolve All to restart the service. I'm using Windows 8.1 64-bit.

Try this:

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

Guys, I don't believe this is related to the program update, its a virus engine thing and according to all the info I have at this moment, it is already fixed in 160819-1 Virus DB (VPS) and later.

I'm not so sure. I don't use the current latest build of Avast!... I use an older version but I'm also having this issue where the Avast! Antivirus main service will randomly die but instead of having to manually restart the service myself via the UI, Windows automatically restarts the service a little time later...

I have the latest virus definitions. (160819-1) and it is still happening. It's happened around 4 times alone today and all at random times... there doesn't seem to be any consistency with it but other things on the system don't seem affected...

I also did a virus scan with Avast! and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and found nada.

I'm kinda worried... because I've never seen the main core service just die like this... the whole time I've used your free products. (So about 5-6 years)

Yesterday, trying to fix the issue (same here on win xp), i've installed version 10 of avast and the problem was still there. At the moment i tought was an incorrect uninstall of the previous version 12.

Seems that we all have in common just the virus definitions...

...or maybe avast has become selfaware? :)

I just updated avast Free to 12.3.2280 on Vista Home Premium SP2 and discovered that it fixed the recently-introduced problem of Windows Security Center not detecting avast but now "Windows Defender is turned off by Group Policy".  That happened without my being given any choice about keeping it on.

From other forum posts, it appears that Windows Defender in Windows 10 has more functionality than the Vista version and running both might be inappropriate [and therefore either Avast or Windows turns Windows Defender off].
However, that is not the case for Vista.

Please rectify this problem.

Okay, so after reading all the reactions here, I get that this version of Nitro is still very buggy and I am not going to install it.

Still looking for this, though:
P.S. Does anyone have a source where I can download the full installer of version 11.2.2262 of Avast? It's the version I am currently still using due to aforementioned issues, but I no longer have the installer. :( Thanks in advance!
Anyone? If you have the installer, could you upload it somewhere and drop me the link? Pretty please?
