Linspire

I have a desktop for Linux called Linspire 5.0. It has an install program called CNR. (click-n-run)A yearly subscription is required. I use mostly windows (XP) at home, and have incorporated 1 client with Linspire 5.0. (for trial) Not that I'm worried about Linspire client but the XP stations. As a home user windows licensing can get expensive. Linspire licensing is inexpensive, but they get you with the software and hardware support. I read that linspire can pass on windows viruses. (though not effectied by them) I run avast 4 home on 2 clients, (XP)(networked) and my laptop (XP) (wireless at times) with very good results. In reading the avast 4 linux features, I am wondering if what you mean is that avast for Linux scans for windows viruses??? (to help stop passing them on) Do you think I will be able to install it on Linspire 5.0?

It should work on Linspire.  Linspire is just another distribution of the Linux platform.

were to get a beta copy, and is it in an unpacker file, (do to the CNR of Linspire) or is their install doc, or do I have to be a beta testing member? who would I contact about getting a copy to try? If I screw up my Linspire Desktop system I could just reload the the Desktop.

I am wondering if what you mean is that avast for Linux, scans Linux for windows viruses??? Is it real time scanning? Monitoring network traffic, e-mail?

No real time scanner.  Just scans your hard disks on demand.   Use whatever virus scanner came with your Linux distro.  But if you want to install the Avast beta:

Nevertheless, I think your software installer requires Debian files.

I'm sure there is some type of virus scanner in the Linspire CNR warehouse.



If Avast ever gets on the stick they will have the best on-demand scanner.  Until then, use what works.
