Avast Passwords not showing in settings
« on: August 25, 2016, 06:45:49 PM »
Hi all,

I installed avast on a secondary PC on my network. I went with avast mostly because of the password sync feature.

I installed Passwords on this device too, but I cannot get the passwords section in main settings windows (gear).

Also, this device is not shown on my primary device below the sync password options. I can only see the primary device itself and my phone. BUT I can see it in my avast account (web or main interface,...)

Tried logout and loggin, and still didn't work.

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks in advance!

Perform a repair of avast and see if it solves the problem.
If not, perform a clean installation of avast.

Will try that tonight and let you know the output.

I suspected this too, but did not have time to check.

Thank you

Hi again.

It didn't work. Should I uninstall/reboot/reinstall/reboot and see what it gives?

Or anyone has an idea about it?

Thanks in advance

I did a clean install of Avast, but it didn't work.

Then I saw at the bottom of the password section (main interface) that there was like a wizard to go through to install browser addon and import passwords.

After I did that, Passwords showed up in the settings.

So to sum up (I,m not 100% sure about that) I think you have to install browser extension so the settings can be reached. I don't think this is a good idea though because there are some people like me who do not really want any extension or autofill, and simply want a password manager (I suppose)

Thanks for your help

The Password Manager works as an add-on to your browser. Maybe this helps to explain it better:

I understand that.

But avast is able to get the passwords without installing any add-on. I can view my passwords, and they can even tell my security level.

This is why I thought I did not need to install the browser add-on to access Passwords settings.

I don't know if I'm clear (sorry I speak French)
