Ethernet and wifi internet connection blocked
« on: August 25, 2016, 11:50:47 PM »
Hello,

I have been subscribed to avast! premier for a year now and have had almost no problems until recently.

A few weeks back I realised that neither my ethernet or wirless connection was working as it used too. I could gain no access to the internet; no matter what I tried the connection was 'unidentified' and 'limited' and would not connect to my sky router.

Originally, I thought this may have been due to router problems or a bad connection, or even a fault with the pc itself... until I restored my computer to find that the internet worked again perfectly!

However, upon re-installing avast! Premier on my device and rebooting, I saw that once again, the internet was not connecting. I have now removed avast and the internet is working fine. I have Windows 8.1 64bit and the pc is only 1 year old so i know now it MUST be avast! When i rang support they told me it was a PC fault so they were no help. I would like to continue using avast as i have recently renewed my subscription, so how can I get around this problem?

Thanks alot.

I suspect it's the Firewall module in Avast that's causing the problem.
You could try just disabling the Firewall but leave the rest of your protection in tact.
Continue to work with Avast Support to resolve the problem.

The support you called, was not Avast but a third party company.
My advise is NOT to call them, because sooner or later they will ask you to pay them.

That said follow Asyn's advise, and submit a ticket.
As soon you have done that post your ticket id here.

And follow Bob's advise, but use the uninstall utility https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility before you install Avast again.
Install Avast Premier with the firewall and see if disabling it helps.
If not, just remove the Firewall component https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB96

But what is shown in Network Profiles : Avast - Tools - Firewall - Settings - Network profiles.
Maybe you can post a screenshot ?

I upgraded my software to windows 10 earlier today and installed avast. So far it has not affected my internet however if the problem occurs again I will try disabling firewall and post a screen shot/ or submit a ticket.

Strange that it happened before as it didnt use to cause me any problems. For now I will just continue to hope that it works as it should. However, I certainly dont think i will renew my subscription next year.

Thanks alot,

Ollie
