When find a virus I try to move it to chest. I get the error message saying virus server is not running. Why is this? I tried re-installing and updating btw.

Are any of these points relevant also http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-other-questions.html#idt_1539 ?

Also try the options given, although not the exact same error it may help.

Have you ever had another AV installed if so what ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

The acm.dll can have associations with audio files:

http://support.xmplay.com/Plugins_native.html

It can also be installed by WhenUSearch:

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/pest/pest.aspx?id=453079971

Or part of these malware programs ... TrojanDownloader.Win32.Swizzor.bf, Adware-SaveNow, WhenU.SaveNow, Adware/WeatherCast :

http://www.spynomore.com/adware-bho-swizzor-bf.htm

Maybe it is installed from here?

http://portal.acm.org/dl.cfm?coll=portal&dl=ACM&CFID=67053366&CFTOKEN=95698619

Perhaps you got it while downloading.installing a screen saver:

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/screensaverheaven.com/downloads/77883/

Well, as you can see, that particular dll name is used in various ways for both good and bad reasons.

That didnt help. I used to have AVG installed but thats been control panel removed. In other words AVG is gone. AVG is crap as hell because it never finds viruses but avast finds a few now and again. But when avast finds one, it gives me the error shown above when I send it to chest. Also the other guys post didnt help much (thanks for replying though, I hate ignorance).

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn't work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Watch for any warnings/errors whilst installing and make a not of them if any occure.

Hello,

He said that he had already tried the uninstall using the add and remove programs. Maybe you should try to uninstall using the avast! remover it can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
