BSOD - "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (aswNetSec.sys)"
« on: September 06, 2016, 12:07:43 PM »
Hello,

Ever since updating my Avast IS a few days ago (03/09/16) I'm getting BSOD when I start my computer, with the message "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (aswNetSec.sys)".

System:
-Intel Core i5-4670 CPU @ 3.40Ghz
-Ram 16.0GB
-Type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Windows 10 Pro

I've been browsing the forums for a bit, but haven't found a solution yet. Please help!

I've tried repairing Avast with the repair tool, as well as doing a clean install. I've updated all drivers using Device Manager (even the hidden ones), but the problem still persists. Only thing that seems to get rid of the BSOD so far is uninstalling Avast IS.

Hi Eddy, thank you for your response.

No, I did not use aswclear. Would this make much of a difference from deinstallation (control panel > uninstall a program)? This 'regular way' of deinstallation removed the BSOD while Avast wasn't installed.

Avast Internet Security
Program version: 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.2)

Yes it sure will make a diiference.
Uninstalling thorugh control panel leaves a lot behind.
aswclear removes some of those leftovers.

I followed the instructions above for a clean install, results:

1st time I tried to install Avast IS again, I got the same aswNetsec.sys error on the reboot. The automatic reboot that followed this BSOD led to a driver_page_fault_in_freed_special_pool rzudd.sys BSOD.

I tried a clean install again, using the tool, and this time I got the aswNetsec.sys BSOD *during* the installation of Avast.

Which version of Avast ??? What other security related programs are you running ???
Get the latest version from here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=189836.0
I suggest using the off-line installer.

rzudd.sys is a driver for Razor keyboards.

Do you have the Anniversary update for Windows installed ?
Do you have any other security (related) software installed ? (or was there)
Seen any other problems with the system lately ?

As far as I know I was running the latest version of Avast Internet Security, which I downloaded on the 3th of september. I'll try a clean install with the offline installer version provided from your link this time.

I didn't have the windows anniversary update installed, working on it now. I thought this update would've been automatically installed on my pc when it was ready, but apparently not.

I don't have any other security related software installed. This pc has only known Avast and the standard windows security.

No other problems with the system before the BSOD's started happening. Before I got my first  aswNetSec.sys blue screen, I noticed my cpu being heavily taxed (up to and above 90% usage) after the first time I tried installing the Avast IS update (Program version: 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.2)). PC became very slow to respond. This hasn't occured since I tried the reinstalling/repairing by myself before I decided to post here.

I've seen the rzudd.sys error once before this weekend, after deinstalling avast. Found out it was a razor driver and updated Razer Synapse, surprised to see it come back again though. Again, I manually tried updating all my drivers through Device Manager as well.

I'll come back with the results after finishing the anniversary update and the offline Avast install.

Arjen:  I had a similar problem as you seem to be having; Windows 10-64 AU; once the latest (at the time) avast update was installed; I had BSODs for two consecutive days; different issues for each BSOD.  Uninstalling avast cured the BSODs.   Unfortunately I've already paid for the product and I may try installing it again if a new release comes out just to see if it's more stable.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview 14915 and the latest Free version of Avast. No problems, no BSOD etc.

Looks like a clean install (with avastclear and the offline installer) combined with the windows 10 anniversary update did the trick.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Three days ago, I started receiving this BSOD with the aswnetsec.sys identified as the culprit, it has crashed my computer at similar times, when I was switching windows. I have Windows 7 Ultimate version, and everything is up-to-date.
I have Avast Business Security Suite.
I usually have several programs open and I am afraid corruption will occur if this keeps happening, have done the Repair, clean install. What's Next?
