Alright, what's this now?
To my dismay, exclusions have stopped working today.
I have a lot of projects and programs I've written for myself, meaning A: I know they're safe, but B: they're not signed or "trusted".
So fine, warn me about them if you must, but since there isn't really an "Ignore" function, which pisses me off immensely, at least let me add folders to exclusions.
Today Avast Free Antivirus started a barrage of "Virus finds".
It flagged:
- My own programs
- Various path-type files
- All kinds of regular applications/setups
And it completely ignored the exclusions I added to the General and the Active Protection/File System settings.
So I found myself having to add them to chest, in order to restore and add them to exclusions.
I also added paths (including subfolders "/*") to both the exclusion settings. But even after doing that, the stream of false positives did not end.
Can anybody suggest a solution that doesn't include venturing out looking for a better AV program that lets you actually control its behavior?
Or suggest a good free alternative known to work - it's the wading through all the BS only to discover that an AV does more harm than good that I'd rather avoid.
Edit:
Drivers, portable executables... No rhyme or reason, an over-kill flagging spree, in complete disregards to my settings.
