Where are the log files for File Blocked? Avast IS paid version
« on: September 14, 2016, 07:55:41 PM »
Hi,

Where do I find the log files please?  - or better yet, a log viewer? - for the Avast Internet Security product on Win 7.   The help agent I spoke to did not know.  She knew how to direct me to the log viewer for the premier product only.   I've done some searching in here and on the net and have looked in the various places suggested such as under c:\program files\avast and there is no log directory.  Hidden system files are visible.   I also looked under the various users with no results.

The situation is that I'm downloading a website in preparation to move it for a client and I got a bunch of warnings on the PDFs.   I didn't download them, I accepted Avast's recommendation to skip them, and I did make some notes, but there were a lot and they have long paths and names.  There was no way I could keep track of them.  They are probably false positives but I don't feel like taking that chance without knowing which ones they were.  These are not files I created.

So how do I find a list of the files that Avast has recently recommended not be downloaded.  There should be a log file, where is that please?

Thanks in advance for any help,  Diane

and what did avast say about those pdf files?
if you have not rebooted you can right click avast tray icon and select show last popup

you can upload and test files at a online multi engine scanner

I suspect that there are links in those files.

Thanks Eddie, I found that link earlier and do not have any log files at those locations.    I am sure they exist somewhere though because when I downloaded the files again, I was not asked about the ones that Avast considered possibly infected.  I'm almost positive they are not but again there are users maintaining those files so I can't know for sure.   Since I can not locate the logs I am going to have to find the files another way.

Do you have another suggestion?   If there are no log files that I can get to because I'm using the regular paid version instead of premier (which I understand has a log viewer that the rep knew how to get to), this could be a deal breaker for me with this product.  It's not something I need very often but when needed, I need it.

Also may I ask a question about Avast in general - do they not have trouble ticket numbers?  When I filed a ticket yesterday, the agent said there was no way for me to follow up.  No ticket number, no reference.   Also I am hoping someone does listen to those recorded calls,  particuarly the end mine yesterday about 10:03 PST with a woman who identified herself as Rachel.   I don't want to editorialize or speculate on her motives but I would not want someone treating my customers the way she treated me and the only way to describe it is for someone to actually listen to that call - to the of it in particular.     She kept asking me why I didn't know my own site well enough to know what the files in question were and she had never heard of FTP, and she practically made me beg her to file the trouble ticket... it was a very disturbing experience and the opposite of what I would call service or support.

If you are referring to some of the responders here, I suspect so also and am not clicking on any of their links.    The files that are in question are PDFs and are probably false positives - but that is actually irrelevant.... what is relevant is the need to see a log

Any legit help is very much appreciated.

The only time there will be no log files is if you disabled the creation of them completely.
It can be you need to enable "show hidden files/folders" first in order to see them.
What information will be in the log files, depends on the settings ofcourse.

avast sure has ticket numbers > https://support.avast.com
You did not spoke to someone from avast, but from a third party that is only handling some things on behalves of avast.
They don't create support tickets.
That is something you have to do yourself through the link I mentioned.

Eddy (and me) is refering to links inside the detected pdf files
If a pdf file containe a clickable URL that is blacklisted by avast then avast will detect it, see my post(s) above

The links i posted above are safe to click and use
