Avast Online Shield Auto-Installed
« on: September 15, 2016, 12:48:23 PM »
After quite a long time, I gave Avast Free latest version a try on my Win 10 64 Pro Laptop.
I did custom install & selected only File & Webshield.
Today Avast Online Shield was auto-installed in Chrome...I hate this type of behavior.

I am giving Avast another chance...if any feature gets auto-installed, will uninstall Avast.

I read nowadays Avast is quite aggressive with popups, features auto-install like mentioned above, etc...And I experienced the same.

Sad to say once a reputed AV now behaves kinda fake AV.

There was a micro fix for a issue with AOS.
My guess is that caused it to install.

Why these things happen repeatedly?

I read here that safezone browser  gets auto-installed, features get auto-installed, product auto-upgrades even though set to manual upgrade, etc...

By auto-install, I meant the same above i.e Chrome asked me to enable or disable.
Why in the first place Avast is trying to add those in Chrome?

I uninstalled Avast.
Whats the purpose of Custom Install if post install Avast is going to any way install the not installed stuffs?

Shame on your malware like behavior Avast.

If new elements are introduced with a new program update, you existing settings would still be honoured, but the new element would installed.

Originally the two browser add-ons were incorporated as just one, in the Avast On-line Security. This split into two to give more flexibility - SafePrice browser extension and the Security browser extension - if you previously had the The AOS then you would get the two extensions.

The new custom installation screen (introduced around avast 12.2.xxxx) offers more flexibility with a Minimal; Recommended and Custom installation. I run a a custom installation on both of my systems and I have never had something installed that I had unchecked in the Custom install.

I have no idea why you are experiencing this.

This is a fresh installed system i.e Avast was never installed on this system after clean install of OS.

I did a custom install with File/Web Shield Only.

Dont know why it happened here?

I have uninstalled Avast as dont want to get further surprise with safezone, etc... installed.

Just for info - With program update, new elements gets automatically installed or users are given an option to install or not install new elements?

Custom install gives you the ability to choose what to install and what to bypass.
Default install installs everything.
