Avast alerts and Windows Update
« on: September 21, 2016, 04:18:21 PM »
Good evening everyone.

I've been encountering a small issue lately, after insalling the Anniversary update. Every now and then I get an alert regarding the reputation of a file that must be downloading at that moment. While I'm not sure what file that is, I suppose it's a file that Windows Update is downloading. Or at least that's what I think after looking at the Avast Alert.
I always choose to complete the download as I really doubt it's triggered by malware on my PC. Scanning with other anti-maware apps seems to confirm this.
This issue is not really annoying but I think it would be worth mentioning.
My system is fully updated is is running the latest version of Avast.

Thank you in advance :)

I tried to by clicking 'insert image', but I can't seem to gethow to do it. By clicking it, this text appears [img]/[img] and then I get kinda stuck.
Any ideas?

You are getting this because you have enabled a setting which is disabled by default.

Avast UI > Settings > Components >  Web Shield (customize) > [uncheck] Warn when downloading files with low reputation.

Sometimes files such as Windows Updates are not signed and can get caught by this.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit • Avast Free (latest stable version) •  Malwarebytes 4 Premium (On-Demand) • Windows Firewall Control • Google Chrome • LastPass • CCleaner • O&O ShutUp10 •

It not only about the signing, also about how many times avast users have downloaded the file already.
If enough avast users have downloaded it, the message will not appear.

Thank you for the replies guys!

But given that these are just some updates that are being downloaded by the system, shouldn't this messages just not appear at all?

No, warnings are issued only if the avast cloud reports your file downloaded has not been seen by a lot of avast users.  IOW, rarely seen at that moment in time.  Depending on when you downloaded these files they would be new when first released.
