There is no such thing as recommended settings.
It all depend on what the user prefers.

Speed depends on a lot of things.
Just to name some :
What applications/services are running.
Hardware specifications.
Room temperature.
Size of the file that is scanned.

If I for example open game folder 5gb my explorer freez 1min. because avast do somthing with it. I haven't this slow problem if disable avast.

Specs:
Windows XP 32-bit SP3
AMD Athlon x2 64 5200+ 2.71GHz
2GB DDR2 RAM

Exact reason is "Scan program when executing" option but I shouldn't disable it and I can't set up it.

If you have File System set to scan all files when opening, that can cause the problem you are experiencing.  All files don't have to be scanned; only those that can possibly pose a threat.  The files that could pose a thread are already scanned by default.
AMD A6-5350M APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 8.0GB RAM, Win7 Pro SP1 64bit, IE11
i7-3610QM 2.3GHZ, 8.0GB Ram,  Nvidia GeForce GT 630M 2GB, Win7 Pro SP1 64bit, IE 11

Works fine here.

You could try a repair:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Avast
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

games often contain compressed files.
Unpacking and scanning them can take some time.

Close all applications, shutdown services that really aren't needed and see if the problems is solved or not.

Yes the problem is compressed files in apllications folders then Avast take time to scan. Movies, music, pictures folders read ok.

2 Gb DDR2 ram isn't helping either and if onboard graphics is used... Forget about graphical games.

I have this exact same problem, XP SP3 also. When I open a folder with some large files in it, such as a installation file, everything freezes. Avast is scanning but there is no sign of it until near the end.

I've gone through the settings and tried to disable anything that would do this and try to get back to the old way Avast worked but it's still doing it on all computers.
