Renewal fee of $69.99 for 1 year Internet Security?
« on: September 24, 2016, 06:24:12 PM »
I have Avast Internet Security 12.3.2280, I had auto-renewal enabled with it and just received an email reminding me that me subscription was being renewed in 33 days. It said my renewal fee was $69.99 Australian for 1 year for 1 PC. On the Avast website it has 1 year for 1 PC for $39.99. I have now disabled auto renewal and will instead get the free Avast antivirus. Why would the auto-renewal give me that price? I also have Secureline VPN which I hope works ok with the free antivirus. I would have happily paid the correct amount. But not now.

<snip>

Is it possible that the price on the avast.com site is for US $ not Aus $ ?

Even so that conversion is incorrect according to a conversion site, but I frequently see such poor conversion rates for UK £.

I bought Avast Internet Security  for 2 years but after free trial I decided not to activated. I can give you for free, send me a message with your email.

I would strongly advise against the OP sharing his email with you as this is a highly suspicious suggestion from a virtually unknown forum member.

If your license is un-used why don't you try to see if you can get you money back?

Is past return period;

I have a habit of buying AV licenses for cheap (just in case); I have un-activated Avast!,Webroot, Avira , Trend Micro and Emsisoft

From these I am 100% sure I will never use  Avast! and Emsisoft.

Is up to the OP to follow or not , I do not really care.

As far as I know Avast licenses are activated at time of purchase so your license will already be counting down.

That could be, I never tried it. I bought it on June 2016 so I should have at least 1 year and 8 months left.

As the license is connected to the email address, you also will have to give the OP your password(s).

Thank you for your replies, and thank you John712 for your generous offer, but if Eddy is correct and I would need your password(s) I would never expect that.
After a little more research (which I should have done before I posted) the $AU fee is $49.99 (save $20) so if you have auto-renewal enabled it seems you are charged the highest amount possible, which is not a good way to look after your existing customers. That being the case there is no point in trying to be loyal and have auto-renewal enabled if all that means is that you are going to be charged higher rates than anyone else. I am not happy that they do this, so as I said when my current subscription expires I will get the free Avast antivirus. I will still be a paying customer with my Secureline VPN, which I like.
Surely existing customers should expect and deserve to get the cheapest prices that are available to everyone else, without having to check to make sure.

Just to update, today when I turned on my laptop Avast now has a green RENEW NOW button (because I disabled the auto-renewal).
After hitting that button lo and behold the amount for the new subscription is now $39.99 AUS, so if I had not disabled the auto-renewal I would have paid $69.99 AUS.
That is just wrong.

Not wrong at all.

Look at what e.g. Telcoms do.
New customers pay the first year less than the normal price.
After the year they pay the full price.
It is just a marketing strategy to get new customers.

It is always a good practice to shop around before getting a renewal.

Sounds like the bottom line is not to use auto-renewal.

I agree with Eddy, you get the best deals when you retain some of the power - same as anything.
