Avast found a virus from TrendMicro application
« on: October 01, 2016, 06:21:25 PM »
Hi.

Avast found a virus from TrendMicro application downloaded from the Mac App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dr.-safety-anti-adware-virus/id1068435535?mt=12

This is a stand alone application with no real time option activated.

Thanks for your help.
Bruno

You can report a suspected FP here: https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php

VT reports it as clean, https://www.virustotal.com/pl/url/a95ce4115d31bd2eb66667c55b0257d9637424e19a1f61d4bc7e78ec48692b41/analysis/1475359649/
but it could be flagged because of incompatibility with avast, the so-called two resident av absolute "no-no"!
But I think it is also the download-IP with a history of issues: https://www.threatcrowd.org/ip.php?ip=23.201.66.217

Wonder if this is found clean: http://www.sitelinks.info/search/easy-duplicate-finder-malware/

The tool is being qualified in reports as a disappointment, so not a big thing, read: http://www.rawinfopages.com/mac/content/review-dr-safety-apple-mac-disappointment

Hi Bruno,

Screenshot is from an older version of avast, say, version 7?  File I attached is from 2012.

Hello, mac analyst here.

I tried to install the mentioned application but my Avast (with the latest virus database) hadn't blocked anything.

My guess is that in your case, the issue could be caused by an interaction between our AV and the adware removal app.
In particular, Dr. Safety could have found a malicious file (possibly in an archive which is not scanned from the inside by Avast) and after it unpacked it for inspection, Avast detection was triggered.

So, it probably wasn't Dr. Safety itself that got blocked.

Anyway, as others already pointed out: In general, it is not a good idea to install more than one security solution to your system.
