So I sent my friend money through paypal to buy himself Avast internet security, but when he tried to buy it it said it would also cost TAX, and it's like £8 which is a decent amount, but I don't remember paying for Tax when I bought it; did I just forget?

Probably depends on whether the seller includes tax in the advertised price or is added separately.

In Australia it is illegal to advertise the total amount without GST included so it may depend on your location.

I don't know what the rules are for the UK but maybe an Avast team member might be able to answer further questions.

Prices listed are normally without TAX/VAT.
Depending on if TAX/VAT need to be paid it is shown on the final overview just before you can confirm the order.

https://www.gov.uk/tax-on-shopping/vat-duties

Sometimes it is possible to get the TAX/VAT back.
