I spent almost a month trying to figure it out what was causing of these problems.  Today I found is Avast, which I consider a great AV.  Although I'm in the fast ring in Build 14951 all started about build 14942 of even before.  Always expecting the next build will fix the problem.  As some of you I erase and reinstalled my laptop and seems to be working but after three times resetting windows just found that Avast was the culprit.

We must be empathic because MS warned us that new builds can bring problems.  But this time is by far my worst nightmare and all my  time lost while needing to work to make some money.  And as a bonus, during the creasy windows behavior I started to get a massage that my license expired and other messages related  to the database update.  So I bought it again and to my surprise now I have two license for 3 pcs each (total 6) and still have problems.

The solution is to create a Virtual Machine an install Windows 10 Insider Preview in a non production machine as is recommended.  I did it because the problems I got before were fairly easy to fix.  But after this, a virtual machine is what I will use.

Until a fix comes from Avast or from Mcirosoft I have to disable Avast if I have to browse to download a file, see a video or want to see a well displayed web page without having to hit refresh 5-10 times and <ctrl> F5 many mor times and hope/pray that I get what I need on one of this interactions.

Hope we all get a prompt solutions to this situation.

Good luck!!!

it is not only Avast, i try with AVG and it seems the same problem.
Microsoft changes sometihng with the antivirus compatibility. Maybe to force us to use his own antivirus : Windows defender.
Hope only with the insider build and not with the final version :)

Avast (or any other 3rd party antivirus) is not the culprit here.
Microsoft did modifications on how handling services and drivers and due to this, 3rd party antivirus have the burden to change.

Edited: I indeed thought to write the contrary that I've done at first time.

Microsoft makes the changes and the AV's are at fault ???
If anything, they need to work together to fix the current problem.

For sure it was not my intention to say that. On contrary.

Indeed I've wrote on contrary of my thought. I've edited the original post. Thanks for rising it up.

Another week, another build that doesn't fix the problem. Build 14965. I had to disable Avast to login to the community forum and post this. <sigh>

BTW, it also blocks any of the Windows 10 Store apps from updating.

Maybe due to weekend period, it would be good to be a little patient until Monday.
Until there, maybe logs and technical information about the errors would be useful.
Wait till Monday? Really? New Windows 10 Insider Preview builds are released every 10 days. This Avast / Windows conjugal debacle has persisted through build 14942, 14946, 14951, 14955, 14959, 14965 and 14971. When 14971 came out, I finally gave up on Avast and advised my customers to do the same.

And which antivirus do not have issues with Insider Preview? You're writing as Avast is the only one and if this is only an antivirus fault.

AVG, F-secure and Bit Defender are all fine. Let's not also forget the last two sets of MS release note have dropped all mention of 3rd party AV problems and still Avast has problems. As a quick side note I was intrigued to notice that many all agreed that the problem that was first recorded in 14946 was the cause of the problems with 14942. Interesting logic!?

Last build of Windows 10 Preview (14986) resolves the issue.

Wanted to try it, but now the online Avast Beta installer freeze my whole computer when around half of the installation, and leaves it in a weird state where I can't reinstall it. Using avastclear.exe allows me to reinstall it after a reboot but it repeats the same things and Windows hangs up again

(By hang-up or freeze, I mean, pressing the caps lock key won't even turn on the light.)

Just wanted to let you know that it happens only using the online installer. Using the offline beta (which is somewhat outdated) then updating Avast to the last version works perfectly though.

Were you using other antivirus before Avast beta installation? Which one?
