This happens every time the computer boots up. If I wait until avast updates itself and do nothing else with the computer the above message appears and avast shuts down. I have the Home edition,  and a Dell with windows XP.

I'll appreciate any suggestions!

Try a repair of avast.
How to do it is explained in many thread on this forum.

Didn't help but thanks! Think it's a Dell problem but haven't found any way to ask them or find a driver update or computer update.

Have you tried ... a complete un-install of Avast, reboot, install avast again, reboot?

Yes, I tried a fresh Avast and the reboot. This problem exists on my 04 Dell but not my 05. The 05 Dell is protected by Avast, how can I also get the same protection for the 04?

Check the folder <avast4>\Data\Log
Are there any unpXXXXX files (X = some numbers) or files with .mdmp extension there?
