Most people use the default setting in the antivirus. A housewife not will to change the settings in the antivirus - it is a dark forest for her.

As I mentioned, this has nothing to do with the users settings. We are talking about why avast didn't detect it on the VirusTotal scan.

Avast's on-demand scans have functions that aren't replicated by the on-demand scan run by VirusTotal.

I tested the Avast protection, he does not protect from new encoders.

avast as used by VT does not have PUP detection enabled.

nothing will protected you from new ransomware as it is technically not possible.
100% protection/detection is simply not possible.
That would be like doctors creating medicines that will cure all diseases that don't exist at this time.
How could they know what new diseases will appear ?
Software can help, but security starts with what the user knows/does etc.

Other vendors have anti-ransomware protection. This protection on behavior detects the ransomware.

I know, sorry, but for me, Russian language is native.

You don't need behavior protection if you simply don't allow ANY untrusted app modify your media files.
