Bombarded with email viruses
« on: February 06, 2006, 12:03:10 PM »
Hi Guys,
The last few days I have been bombarded with emails containing a guys name and a price list atached and I get a virus warning from avast. Of course I delete the email  and virus without opening them. Avast says the virus in the emails is Win32:Beagle-HZ [Wrm]. How do I stop them coming. I put the address in the blocked list but the next ones have different names. Bloody stinking virus writers.
Cheers Paul >:(

You can't. As soon as your mail gets public you can't stop chain reaction even if all friends that you know are clean. It sux but thats how it is.
Though i don't have much problems with either of this using GMail. I get spam from time to time, but no malware. All you can do is delete the stuff and filter them out using some spam filter. If you have a flexible spam filter you can set to automatically delete all mails that contain com/vbs/scr/pif files. This way you get rid of 70% of all malware (and i'm sure you won't send any of these filetypes). Setting Internet Mail to Silent Mode will also speed up mail checking and cleaning (moves attachements to chest automatically).

Blocking individual email addresses is a waste of time the target is constantly moving, from email address are normally faked and changed frequently.

If you are regularly getting these infected emails, so as to be intrusive and not wanting to be notified about them, perhaps it is time to review your PC security. You can intercept these emails at source (your isp/services mail server) and delete them there, rather than download them.

I use MailWasher Pro, although it is primarily for Spam it is also easy to deal with suspicious emails. There is a free version, but this only works with a single email account. The Pro version works with multiple accounts.

You can't. As soon as your mail gets public you can't stop chain reaction even if all friends that you know are clean. It sux but thats how it is.

Sorry RejZoR I have to say you are mistaken and there is away to stop the email bombarded, I have been doing this smart email safe system for nearly 3yrs and not one email B@$T@RD! virus ever hit my original email address in-box.

How did I do? it very simple and very safe.

1. You need to change your original email address if you are using Outlook Express or MS Outlook, to change the original email address you have to ask your Internet Provider or Broadband company to change your original email address account.

That way they don't you have change your email address and the email bombarded doesn't deliver to your in-box.

2. Once you new email address has been change by your Internet Provider or Broadband company, NEVER using or send your original email to anybody not even your friends and your family or anybody out there in the real world.

3. You only used your original email address using Outlook Express/MS Outlook between you and your Internet Provider or Broadband company.

4. Look for a free email account on your Internet like Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo that has got a big free email storage account for example 250mb, 1 Gig or 2 Gig enough for your need.

5. Before you choose the right free email account for your need and email storage size, look for that got free email anti-virus checking, emailing spamming and blocking control.

6. Once you have found your free email account like Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo sign up and create your own email address, you can send as much email to whoever as you like because once you have found your free email choice like Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo.

You have more control against email bombarded than using your original email address on Outlook, BUT remember ALWAYS look for that got free email anti-virus checking, emailing spamming and blocking control.

That doesn't mean you can't stop using Avast Anti-virus because once you download the email attachment from Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo, Avast will automatically scan your attachment before the virus get to your HD to double check.

Believe all I have far more greater control against email bombarded NOT using my original email address using Outlook, it only between me and my Internet Provider or Broadband company and nobody else against my PC from virus, spam and email bombarded.

It very simple, it very smart and very safe.

Do you understand all this above.
