India Ransomware
« on: October 24, 2016, 04:11:39 AM »
Hi
I have been using avast free anti virus for many years.  Recently I have been infected(twice) with the India ransonware virus, the one which encrypts your files and make the PC useless.  Why is avast not protecting me from this?  The infected PC has no email and does not browse the internet.  The infections seems to happen when the PC is powered on but not logged in.

No AV is 100% Proactive against Ransomwares. But best defence is Backup.

Do you use USB removable device on it?

As ransomware only comes through the Internet, the system is (or was) connected to it either direct or indirect.

Only powering on will not get a system infected.

Yes but the next computer (offline) may get it from a USB stick, so he may have more then one infected PC

There is no tool in the world that offers 100% detection/protection.
If there was, it would be the same as doctors already making medicines that will cure all diseases that doesn't even exist yet.
