Windows 7 rescue disk

Windows 7 SP1 up to date, x64
Avast 12.3.2280
Made a rescue  CD and USB stick
USB stick boots, seems to work (you can launch a virus check on files)
CD?DVD gets stuck in some Intel boot cycle, eventually fails.

As the usb and cd/dvd are created with the same software and others don't have this problem...
It seems like a hardware issue to me.
