Stop Avast From Harrassing Me?
« on: October 30, 2016, 08:42:32 PM »
Hello. I've been using Avast for years. It just popped up trying to make me spend money on it. It mentioned how many viruses it's stopped this year alone. Funny, as how I'm waiting on a reply to this thread -- http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/365766-infected-computer/ -- in order to have some stuff removed that Avast doesn't even acknowledge as existing.

Also, any time I go to a porn site, Avast tries to harass money out of me. It tells me it and many things can see what I'm watching on the internet right now, and that if I upgrade I'll be protected. It's not even trying to say, "Hey bro, porn sites have viruses." It's saying, "Hey bro. I'm gonna tell you you're looking at porn every time you do."

I might make a virus showcasing this off.

Avast is older than me. Does it really need these shit tactics to stay in business? Maybe if ONE COMPANY -- because your entire field of business consists of sub-par software -- produced an anti virus program that worked.. that did it's job.. and only it's job... then maybe we'd buy your subpar software.

Point being is, somebody in your company sucks ass. I am fucking tired of your bullshit popups. I remember when I could look at my porn in peace, before Avast would harass me, but after it was installed.

Maybe I should make a youtube channel where I specifically download viruses that are capable of circumventing your software [and others, I'd target them all but target you the most. No other free antivirus does what you do, that I have tried.] in an attempt to show the world how pointless your software truly is?

I can be as outlandish as you are, you porn hating fucks.

I guess my question is, can you turn these notifications off? I'm assuming not, which is why my first message didn't even get to my question.

Perhaps it is your use of language that make people not want to respond.

Okay, I will have to try later. It doesn't always show up right away, but the only trigger I know for is it porn. Now there's a weird ass video on my phone too lol. But I will get it on video.. might just send it straight to youtube after that.

I never said I don't like Avast, nor did I say I think any anti virus program is better or worse than any other -- they are all the exact same quality.. none of them are 100% protection.

I do not think my language should be an issue when we are talking about a program designed to communicate with me when I watch porn. I am serious. I will get this on video and proof of this functionality here. I'm just tired of these popups. Isn't Avast supposed to stop unwanted popups? It's using Psychology against people. When a non tech savvy person uses a computer and watches some porn and their antivirus says something to them mentioning the word "protection", it is conceivable to understand how that could unfairly lead to them spending that they would not have spent had things been worded differently or at different times.

On the contrary, I still want to use Avast and I like it enough to keep using it, that is why I finally came here... to hope that I can help it get better, because I want to keep using it. It's like how they say not voting will never change anything.. not telling Avast that they are being crappy might mean they never know they are crappy. Hitler said that if France or Germany did anything about him placing troops on the border of Alsace-Lorraine then he never would have started WWII, because he would have seen reasons why not to. Maybe Avast needs to see reasons why they shouldn't do sucky things.

I'm even accepting, but disgruntled, ofthe popups trying to get me to buy it. But when your software is programmed to know if I am looking at porn and then present a message, I .... would tell an individual person to go fuck theirself for such an action. Treat Me Like I Am A Human.. I Am Treating You Like A Human..

I understand. There are no bad images. Mature-Level words may be present, yes, but I cannot go against my morals here and let Avast be a hypocrite. If Avast truly is programmed to show you dialogues when you are viewing porn, then any proof of that entirely belongs here. Otherwise it will get swept under a rug and treated like an awkward elephant in the room... but it will never get talked about, so it will never change.

Edit: No bad images = You can turn of image loading in firefox, so I did that for the video. My firefox also does not run Addons without me explicitly allowing them to run per website, so there were several steps in place to keep it as appropriate as possible. I do understand the program may remove software that has porn or other bad things in it, and that alone in no way constitutes reason for showing the videos I am claiming to try to produce. However, that is not the case at all that is in hand, what we are dealing with is functionality simply made to give me a dialogue box when porn sites [and probably others too, like website "script kiddies" (aka fake hackers) go to get malicious software], but it is indeed programmed for porn, and so proof of that is necessary. It is unreasonable to tell me I cannot talk about a specific way Avast was programmed.

I have yet to see any of those porn related pop-ups.

If you want less pop-ups of Avast you can go to Programs and Features>Avast>Change install and untick anything you dont want, that will remove some of the pop-ups. In the paid ones is an option to not show offers for additional Avast softwares.

I only get a random "Upgrade because of --" message, a "you've been using avast for several hundred days, here's 80% off" and the elusive porn popup. If you guys give me some time.. A day or two even, as I have a life and don't spend that much time looking at porn, you guys will get footage of this. I'm honestly surprised you guys don't know what I'm talking about..

Google Search Term: avast gives me a popup when i look at porn
First Result: https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/2ib6ll/avast_antivirus_tracks_the_websites_i_visit_to/

Contents of Result: "At first I thought it was just a coincidence, but lately I've noticed that whenever I look for porn, even if I'm just searching for it using Bing Videos, Avast! shows up a little pop-up add for their Secureline VPN, telling me about how I should use it to avoid being monitored.

I was wondering how /r/technology feels about this and whether you guys could recommend me a less intrusive, free antivirus program? I know about malwarebytes and using AdBlock (and I have both), but I was looking for something that can detect threats in real time."

I haven't even read this post, but surely, it's not just me.
