not available to users in your location
« on: November 01, 2016, 10:43:00 AM »
I have Secureline VPN and want to watch Australian shows sometimes but I am living in S E Asia. Every time I try to watch an Australian show while connected with an Australian VPN (Melbourne), I get the message "this video is not available for users in your location".
So even tho my IP address is showing as Melbourne, Aus knows I am not actually in Melbourne and will not let me see Australian tv shows?
Why is this happening, I thought VPN's stopped geo-restrictions?

Checking a IP is only one way to "guess" the users location.
There are more ways to do so.

Samples are (not limited to) :
- Geo info your browser is sending
- Tracking cookies
- Visitor behavior

Nest to that there is also the option to block visitors who are using a VPN.

Hi terry,

Please, what browser are you using?  Each major browser has different geo-location settings that you can adjust which might be helpful in your case.  Please let me know and I'll send instructions.

Kind regards,

Davidek

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/geolocation/

Disabling it will not mean by default you can visit the site/view things.
Sites can real easy check for geo-location information and if none is supplied block access.
