Beta team,
Are my download problems fixed when this beta goes final ?
See https://support.avast.com/support/tickets/563093

It's difficult to predict as to the behavior on a given system due to the fact that no two systems are exactly alike.

Ok I installed the latest beta.  I have to say I like the old GUI more.  Especially the "Home" screen of the new GUI, looks way too barren.  They need to reduce the size if it is going to be that sparse/blank.

The other thing I noticed, and not sure if this is the case with the current program, but running speedtests at the below site gives me a ton of bufferbloat.  If I disable Avast, then I get very little bufferbloat.

dslreports.com/speedtest

Anyone????  I suspect Avast is doing something funky with webtraffic.

Bob I quote from within my ticket 563093:

Thank you for your response. Our developers are still working on this problem. Hopefully this problem will get fixed with the next program update.
There is a BETA version of the new Avast available now, but I'm afraid this problem isn't yet addressed there. You can check the BETA here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=192643.0
I'll leave this ticket open in the meantime and will let you know when the fix version will be released.
Please again accept our apologies for this inconvenience.

So what I asked here was requested in the ticket.

By the way, why talk this two Avast teams not with each other ?

@ Clocks

I'm not sure what you mean by bufferbloat ?

I would suggest that you try speedtest.net and see if it confirms your results with the other check. Whilst I'm not on the current beta, I have maintained similar results over the years (using speedtest.net) that are close to my broadband contract 52Mbps download and 9Mbps upload.

Latest check 51.54Mbps and 8.68Mbps

I had never heard of that term before, speedtest.net doesn't report it, but I would have thought if it was that bad it would also be reflected in your download and upload speeds. I ran a test from dlsreports.com and broadly speaking they were very close to my previous speedtest.net results.

It may be more noticable with a faster connection.  I recently got a 1gb connection.  When I run the DSL Reports tests without Avast, I get Bufferbloat around 10-80ms, and score an "A".  With Avast, it is like 800-thousands with a "F" score.  I suspect Avast is doing something weird with web traffic, or maybe something related to this:

Well avast would/should be scanning web traffic, after all that is what it is for. The higher the broadband connection, there is a possibility that you would experience a bottleneck elsewhere in the system, whilst scanning catches up with the downloaded data. Be that HDD, CPU or possibly RAM, but it is hard to say.

I dont have the issue with other AVs though, so it has to be something unique to what Avast is doing.

I don't have the problem with other Av's either. Maybe that's because I don't use them ???

It isn't just a case of not having problems with other AVs, not all of them are scanning your web content.

I haven't used any other AV other than avast for twelve and a half years (without issue in relation to the web shield), so I can't speak about other AVs and how they might or might not have an impact.

I like the new UI alot, from what I have seen in pics. That yellow was just  :-\ The window size is also spot on. More than often AV windows are small and doesn't work that well. The font should be the same as for your web page, that looks stunning. Can't wait for the final release then i will renew.

Just another question. Going back a few versions. Is the girl still speaking when for example there was an update made? Thanks.
