avast has been working on something to prevent systems from getting infected with ransomware for many months.
But they are very quiet about it so it is unknown to us users what the status/progress of it is.

Cybercapture can't kick in before a file comes to the system.
Simply because it has to be on the system to create the hash for a file.
If the file is not present, a hash can't be created and therefor not be send to avast.

Quote
stopping unauthorized programs from modifying your private files
And how should avast know what files are private or not?
Only way is to tell avast meaning that even if you create e.g. a draft for a letter in notepad that you want to print and send by regular mail to someone, let avast know it is a private file.
Another problem is...
What are unauthorized programs ?
Any file can be changed with e.g. notepad.
So it notepad to be considered as a unauthorized application
They have a large whitelist, they can authorize the most common text editors, image viewers and such programs to modify protected files. There will be protected directories like %userprofile%\Documents and %userprofile%\Pictures. There can also be protected extensions like .docx and .jpg. If for some reason a file was not submitted to CyberCapture and tries to modify such files, it would be a good idea to invoke it. Why Avast has to wait more, Bitdefender and Kaspersky have already released good working solutions.

Is there an ETA on a build that addresses the system not powering off when shut down?
That is the only thing stopping me from downloading and using the beta.

I've been wondering WTH has been going on with my PC lately.  Didn't realize it was Avast.  Guess it will bet uninstalled for a while.

Should this be listed under the known issues?

A new version will be released when it's ready. Currently we are still beta testing the first release of a new version.

A month has passed, would be nice to get some feedback from the team as well on our opinions about the main GUI. Same goes for a new update with more settings designed under new GUI theme. This current beta feels more like a draft, a rough idea what it should look like, but is nowhere near finished.

I can confirm that the Windows 10 Shutdown Problem is related to this beta release of Avast.
I did a simple uninstall (via Programs and Features) of  Avast and the shutdown problem is gone.

It is always the first thing I do when testing betas.
This build was on my machine for a week until I realised when powering off my PC for the night, it simply wouldn't do that, the system would log out, close apps etc, but the power and machine would still be powered up (think, screensaver mode without the screensaver).
The beta hasn't been updated since its initial release November 3rd. I've seen posts saying that the fix was already noted and already in a internal build since, but we, the public, have gotten no new builds since that first release back on November 3rd.

Hence my question of if we will see a new build soon.
