... mailed the Alwil guys the following:
First of all: I really like your scanner software! You are doing a great job.
I am using your application for a couple of weeks now and until recently I only found minor problems with the application.
I am using a Sygate Personal firewall together with a webserver that acts as a router/NAT forwarder and proxy.
Over the last couple of weeks Ive seen LOTS of traffic on the firewall caused by ICMP Pings of code 0 (and I still remember the infamous smurf attacks ). This traffic is so very bad that it causes my server and the @Home network (my provider) some real problems.
So, my question would be: what is going on here!? I think I need to shut down my avast software and go back to my good old mcafee. It seems to solve the ping problem...
And the reply I got: (at least I've got to give them they had the decency to mail me a reply)
avast! pings our servers to check if new updates are available. You can disable the feature of avast! "automatic update" (see help file).
GUYS! the problem is not pinging just once ... the software causes to ping 8000+ in a few minutes
oh... and another thing... where 's the uninstall button?
