Bad reputation browser add-on mystery

I ran a smart scan with Avast Free 12.3.2280. A web browser add-on of bad reputation was found. Avast did not tell me what the add-on was or which browser it was in. I clicked for Avast to show me the log and nothing happened. I clicked to resolve the issue and nothing happened. I ran smart scan and then the browser add-on scan again. The bad add-on was still said to be present. The Avast GUI says nothing about a Virus Chest. Access to it is extremely well hidden. I checked all browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox) and there were no add-ons that have appeared since I last ran Smart Scan or Browser add-on scan.

Why does Avast make sweeping changes to the GUI with each new major version change? Is it some sort of game to challenge the user? Avast 2015 GUI allowed acceptably straightforward access to all features. You learn to navigate the GUI and then it is changed for no apparent reason except change for change's sake. If a GUI causes accessibility problems, then something is intrinsically wrong with it. A good GUI should be simple to navigate.

Run the BCU seperatly and not through the smart scan.
You should see what is found that way.

If nothings shows up when you click to show the log/information, it is either a bug or a problem with your avast installation.
Perform a repair of avast and see if the problem is solved.
If not, perform a clean installation of avast.

For the log file, you can always navigate to it and open it manually.

Just the sort of thing I've been complaining about here for a very long time.

It is not just AVAST that has this problem it is an issue across a wide range of programs. Regular fiddling or the complete redesign of the GUI too often results in an 'update' that is uglier, less intuitive, missing useful features and more difficult to navigate than the prior version.

Thank you to all you guys for the help.  I tried a repair without success but a clean reinstall did the trick.  Thanks Eddy.  I think that some data had become corrupted.  It works great now.  The allegedly bad add-on was the Web of Trust WOT and I set the browser scan to ignore it.  I wonder what I should know about WOT?

Because it is no longer 'Trust'worthy, so not 'WOT' but more Wo.

It for sure isn't (to say the least), even near trustful anymore.
It is ofcourse your own choice, but I very strongly recommend to remove it.

WOT has now been removed.  I used it for years and years. Hard to believe how readily such good things can fall into disrepute. Thanks for the information, guys.
