Avast causes executable downloads to fail
« on: December 02, 2016, 11:13:56 PM »
Right now, for what ever reason, executable downloads fail with avast shields running.
Shutting them down seems to fix this issue even if this is something to do as last resort.
Question stands, why do same executable downloads work fine when using Deluge or uTorrent, while downloading them via Firefox or Chrome causes them to fail? I'm pretty sure the former group of downloads are more susceptible to infections than the latter.
The first video is an example when avast shields are running.
Code: [Select]
http://a.pomf.cat/ibqpsd.webmThe second one is showing turning off the shields and trying the same download.
Code: [Select]
http://a.pomf.cat/dmeept.webmIf this sort of behavior continues, I assume that it's actually much better to surf the internet without the placebo AV because it's not protecting from actual threats, but rather preventing you from using internet.

You also didn't mention which OS you are running. If it's Windows 10 insider preview than that's your problem.
Anything beyond build 14936 doesn't like any thirds party AV.

I use firefox as my browser of choice on my three systems XP Pro, Win7 and win10 and have no problem with downloads.

Can you give to one of the download locations and I can try it.
I would try ideaIU-2016.3.exe shown in your first video but without a domain that is a non starter.

Usually when turning off the shields if it resolves the problem it is an indication of conflict, but what is the question. Are you actually getting any avast or browser error messages displayed ?

The only response I'm getting is that download failed.
The object in question I'm trying to download is a publicly available IDE for java.

Torrent clients are using another protocol than browsers.

No clue about what software you are talking, but if you mean avast...
That is not the current version and there never was such a version.
