Why Can't A Computer Be More Like A Brain?
Jeff Hawkins (founder of Palm Computing) discusses creating a software platform that will allow computers to learn like humans. "My colleagues and I have been pursuing that approach for several years, and we have made significant progress..."

The brain doesn't think, it is only an interface that allows the spirit to interact with the body.  To explain would get this post deleted as I would have to involve The Book.

Thanks for the link Dan, I've been reading about this for some time and it WILL Happen in the next 50 years. Dr Michio Kaku  http://www.mkaku.org/  (Whom I am a big fan of) has been talking about this and other human advances for some time.

Check out some of his videos here:  http://www.mkaku.org/books-tv-film/video.html

Google Acquires Internet
Mountain View-based search giant Google Inc. today announced they've acquired the Internet for the astounding sum of $2,455.5 billion in cash. The deal had been rumored in various search blogs since the beginning of the year and was now confirmed by the company’s CEO.
'This is in line with our vision to make information more accessible to end users,' says Eric Schmidt. 'With the acquisition, we can increase the speed of indexing as everything will already be on our servers by the time it’s published.'

Words for Today's Tragic Event

I are simply heartbroken by the deaths and injuries suffered at Virginia Tech. We know what an unspeakable, life-changing moment this is for these families and how, in this moment, it is hard to feel anything but overwhelming grief, much less the love and support around you. But the love and support is there.

I pray that these families, these students, and the entire Virginia Tech community know that they are being embraced by a nation.
There is a Methodist hymn that gave us solace in such a moment as this, and we repeat its final verse here, in hopes it will help these families, as it helped us:

In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity;

In our doubt there is believing,
in our life, eternity,

In our death, a resurrection;

at the last, a victory,
Unrevealed until its season,

something God alone can see.

My dearest wish is that this day could start again, with the promise of these young people alive. Knowing that cannot be, our prayer is for God's grace and whatever measure of peace can be reached on this terrible day.

100-Year Old Predictions
From the December, 1900 edition of the Ladies Home Journal: Predictions of the Year 2000.
http://www.yorktownhistory.org/homepages/1900_predictions.htm

For example:

Prediction #6: Automobiles will be cheaper than horses are today. Farmers will own automobile hay-wagons, automobile truck-wagons, plows, harrows and hay-rakes. A one-pound motor in one of these vehicles will do the work of a pair of horses or more. Children will ride in automobile sleighs in winter. Automobiles will have been substituted for every horse vehicle now known. There will be, as already exist today, automobile hearses, automobile police patrols, automobile ambulances, automobile street sweepers. The horse in harness will be as scarce, if, indeed, not even scarcer, then as the yoked ox is today.
Prediction #9: Photographs will be telegraphed from any distance. If there be a battle in China a hundred years hence snapshots of its most striking events will be published in the newspapers an hour later. Even to-day photographs are being telegraphed over short distances. Photographs will reproduce all of Nature's colors.
Prediction #28: There will be no wild animals except in menageries. Rats and mice will have been exterminated. The horse will have become practically extinct. A few of high breed will be kept by the rich for racing, hunting and exercise. The automobile will have driven out the horse. Cattle and sheep will have no horns. They will be unable to run faster than the fattened hog of today. A century ago the wild hog could outrun a horse. Food animals will be bred to expend practically all of their life energy in producing meat, milk, wool and other by-products. Horns, bones, muscles and lungs will have been neglected.

Yep Tednelly,

These monkeys certainly outsmart another class of "primates" that normally sit there. That other class of primates push certain keys by which the whole natural sytem gets de-regulated. Funny thing is primates known to sit there are held on cups of coffee and biscuits,
