Windows XP SP3 boasts speed boost according to some testers.
( I haven't personally been able to confirm these claims. )

http://www.ip-adress.com/

Has added a new whois lookup function that allows you
to display the owner of an IP address or domain name.

This useful tool looks up the holder of a domain name
or IP address and displays information such as name and
address of the holder. For example, if you enter
microsoft.com you will see to whom the domain is
registered which, in this case, is the Microsoft
Corporation, of course. You will also see
Microsoft's address and contact details.

If you use the tool to query an IP address you will
find information on the organization the IP address is
registered to. This can be a company holding a pool of
IP addresses of their own or an internet access or
service provider. If you look up your own IP address
it will most likely display information on your
dial-in provider.

To access the whois lookup tool you can click on the
link next to the IP address or webserver shown.
Check it out:

http://www.ip-adress.com

You can also access the tool directly by going to
http://www.ip-adress.com/whois

We are glad that our recently added Proxy Check Tool
has found many friends and is heavily used. If you haven't
checked it out yet, go to:

http://www.ip-adress.com/Proxy_Checker/

Hope you find this as useful as I did.  :)

Thanks, Bob ... I'm trying out OpenDNS now. What is your advice on creating an account ... yes, no, or maybe?

I've tested OpenDNS for one month or more... It's not that frequent, but also not so rarely, that the DNS servers are down and we are not allowed to connect. Then, immediately, I turned the DNS to automatic and the connection is back. Right now, I'm tired of these occurrences and let it to my ISP DNS (automatic).

I have been using the OpenDNS for many months now and I haven't had a single problem with their servers being down. It isn't just the DNS function that is good but the anti-phishing site database give the additional level of protection. For me that would be worth any occasional blip, which I haven't had.

I also use the DNS cache of my firewall so I don't have to go to 'any' DNS server for regular/previously visited sites. Not only does that avoid the need to check a DNS server but it is quicker too.

I've used it for over 1 year without any problems.
I'm currently using it and intend to continue doing so.
The added safety explained by David is another reason to use this
totally free service.
