Download Speed: 6841 kbps (855.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 343 kbps (42.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 183 ms

Hmm seems OK to me as the max that I am supposed to get is 8Mb

But I am at the end of the country

I just had to try this for my amusement and to see if the speedo dial got of zero, it did, just ;D

Though the test on upload is somewhat in error (11.5 times faster than download) as on dial-up the maximum is 33,600 bits per second. So here is my image to brighten your day, emjoy.

Seems that speed measures are inconclusive ???

The reason there is a difference Tech can best be described by an old Realtors term:
Location, Location, Location

The distance between your Location and the Location of the test server.

I thought the service will take this into account and return the 'real' speed... if not, the only way to test is using a server some kilometers from your computer...

It isn't the physical distance so much as the number of servers that the packets go through (hops) which effects the Latency. So it can't really apply a factor for distance and why apply a corrected speed when in the real world that isn't what happens.

I can't say about David, but I can say about me -- my speed test was pretty much the same as David, just about 2 months ago. In my case it takes about 3-5 minutes to load a simple web page & 10-15 minutes in case of Java/flash pages. 8)
Now the thongs are going better, with my jump on to ADSL connection  8)
