Hey scy, Nope, I learned a long time ago that toolbars just slow things down and eat RAM. The only add ons are the usual such as flash and java.

Damn... I was hoping anyway.  Oh well, maybe it IS a problem.  Not like a pre-release of a Windows operating system hasn't had them before, eh?

I'm sure it will be fixed by SP2 or 3, lol.

I've managed to crash IE8 a few times myself. Seems heavy multitasking isn't
to it's liking.

I finally installed IE8 last night and had the following problems on my dual cpu 600 MHz PIII, 1 GB RAM, XPSP3 computer:
- IE8 repeatedly took 60-85 seconds to load.
- the Java automatic update checker, jusched.exe, would occasionally grab 50% cpu for for up to 20 seconds.  It normally uses none.
- Google's gmail notifier, gnotify.exe, would use 50% cpu for 40 seconds just to load and get to its password prompt.  This is while IE8 wasn't running.

I've uninstalled IE8 now and everything's seems to work properly again.  Oh wonderful, I see it's left behind some Errors for the XP Event Viewer to report[1].  A web search might help me figure out how to address those.  Seems like most of the other vendors can push new versions of Internet software without horking my machine, but this one didn't.

I checked the minimum system requirements:
    * 233MHz processor or higher
    * RAM: 64MB for Windows XP
I pity the poor fool who believes them.  There are other browsers that run well on a system that old, but IE8 does not appear to be one of them.

After you uninstall Internet Explorer 8, you may notice Application event log errors after each reboot. To resolve this problem, delete the following Internet Explorer User Accelerators and Internet Explorer Machine Accelerators registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions:

{CF7639F3-ABA2-41DB-97F2-81E2C5DBFC5D}

I agree thats pathetic. But My dad uses a ancient 400Mhz PowerMac G4 and I had to keep him on Safari 3.x because the Safari 4 Beta was just too slow to load and run. I still think that his machine should still have enough power to run any web browser, So when Apple discontinues updates for Safari 3.x i'll move him to Firefox or Opera.

I don't think it matters if they ship before Xmas or not. Everyone around here is not planning on spending much, heck lots of people here just flat out don't have a job period.

That may well be the case, but there I would suggest be even less likelihood of a sale outside of the traditional buying period. So the opportunity no matter how much reduced is still there.

I can keep using this RC version till Aug. 2010 so I have ample time to save up before the conversion to the
final version of Windows 7.

one current Avira user here, I can say avast! web protection is better than Avira, so I hope avast! in V5 make the standard shield good as their web-protection, and then so I would move to avast!, now I've mix of both of them, I hope avast! 5 be good enough for me

well, I must say I had not any false-positive by Avira in version 9 (a lot of in V8, I mean old virus database). but about WebGuard, they should re-design their proxy system... you are right, it need to re-design... because that style of cache, it can cause sometimes delay in web-browsing, what avast! don't do and I like avast! because of that
but if another ProActive be added to Avira with this highest number of detection rate... it can cause False-positive, but they are smart, hope think about it
