I would never, ever recommend Hotspot Shield to ANYONE and I wonder why it is not considered mal-ware when it leaves an active service installed.
Many programs leave things behind. Unless what's left or left running is malicious, it can't be considered Malware.
( I also didn't recommend the program simply made you aware of the program. )

@mister.marmot

I have used this program. This is a legit program and it doesn't leave anything behind. Try the latest version of this program. Uncheck the toolbars. They have more than 10 million users.
It left a service behind.  The OS is mirrored away but I have the evidence and when I restore the partition I can submit a screenprint of their service.

I've been repairing machines since 1987.  I do forensic data retrieval.  It was absolutely Hotspot Shields code.

Besides, it's a bit creepy to have my data packets getting sniffed as they are routed through a private advertising firms' servers.

I thought the link offered by Chris was sufficient since going to the link gave me all the information ....
I posted it in full mainly for Chris as he stated Windows 7 users "might" get a service pack or something similar on Feb 26 seems like he didn't know :-\

I am sorry. I wrote like that because I read conflicting news article about it. Some said its a service pack update and that more details about it will be out soon although they pointed to the above link.

Microsoft's internal version numbering system is not on the fast track like browser code cycles.  They are still upping it by 0.1's.

Well that actually means nothing, all it means is that you have never visited the site and haven't allowed scripts to run for that domain.

What is a matter of concern is why you even visited it in the first place, the decision maker between the chair and computer has to use some common sense as to what links the should or shouldn't visit. The domain name in this case certainly should have thrown up some warning flags in the brain.

Actually the red circle over NoScript S means that no scripts are being allowed to operate on the browser NOT that I haven't visited there before.

Are you saying that this 1800+ Christian Avast! super user who dropped the links here on the forum was trying to get me infected?

Besides, Win8China is a fan and tech site for Chinese geeks and has a green WebReb and WOT recommendation and a 100/100 Webutation review.    Nothing to be worried about.

Dude. That site has no malware. If there was, I wouldn't be posting it in the first place.

Looks like an interesting site although I'll have to rely on IMTranslator or if Google offers to translate it.  That's for the introduction to it.  +1

DDownloader a great tool when setting up a new computer.
A safe way to download the needed programs directly from the source and,
you can choose a selective install not just the default install to see exactly what's being installed.
You can even add programs to the download list if you don't find them among the 500 programs offered.

Run-Command is a small, portable windows program and created as an alternative to the standard Windows Run-Dialog.
In this program you will find a number of improvements e.g. the function run as administrator and add to favorites commands
for frequently used commands. You can comfortably manage the favorites and grouping by command categories is also possible.
