My guess it is the merger of the avg and avast signature databases.

Given that avast has the capability to make changes to the engine function, if avast have introduced to the AVG AV could that also be a factor.

Well, the Deep Scan is certainly taking significantly longer now. And we are talking native system, not VM. So, something is certainly going on. I think I'll fire up VM again and check if any AVG names pop up during scans to confirm or dismiss that...

Just finished another test and I didn't get ANY malware detection names familiar with AVG. It had to be something else.
