Not Enough Privileges / Licence Key Invalid
« on: January 25, 2006, 04:22:01 PM »
Hi

Having nothing but trouble currently with Avast. Trying to install onto a system with multiple accounts, including a user admin account. Let's call this account "XP Home". Avast installs fine on there, but the program refuses to run on the other accounts, producing the "Licence Key Invalid" issue. OK, checked the forums here, found the idea to uninstall and reinstall on the built-in Administrator account.

Now for the next problem. It would seem that even the built-in Administrator account hasn't got enough rights to install Avast. Now, this may be in part because for some strange reason my computer has decided to create an alternate Administrator directory in the Documents and Settings folder, called "Administrator.MASTER", yet there is only one Administrator account available on the Safe Mode boot, which logs into this folder.

Here is the error log (Ignore the version, I know I need to update but would like to get to the root of this problem before I attempt to do so)

26.01.2006 01:06:01 general: Started: 26.01.2006, 01:06:01

26.01.2006 01:06:01 registry: ERROR!:Cannot create registry HKLM\Software\ALWIL Software\TestSetup, error code: 0x00000005
26.01.2006 01:06:01 general: Err:Not enough user rights to continue.

As can be clearly seen, the user logged in is Administrator. This is becomming rather irritating, its now 1:20am, and ive been trying to find a workaround solution for the past several hours. I have checked the registry, and the TestSetup key is inaccessible from the Administrator account, but fine to access with the user admin account XP Home.

Does anyone know what is going on here???

The account you are running the setup from doesn't have write access to HKLM\Software key. Check the permissions, please.

I did check the permissions, and I even tried changing the permissions to be allowed for all users. Didn't make any difference.

Thanks for all your help... looks like I'm looking for a more USER-friendly virus scanner without all the issues Avast comes with.
