Problem with Avast 12.3.2280 (Build 12.3.3154.23)
« on: December 19, 2016, 12:33:54 AM »
Hi, I have been having this problem with Avast where it the Avast background service is not running. A while ago, it seemed that I have fixed that when I disabled Windows Defender when it was having some sort of conflict with that. Now it is happening again for some reason and when I tried to start the background service, nothing happens and it is acting like it may be in conflict with something else. My OS is Windows 10 Pro upgraded from Windows 7 Pro.

Windows 10 is meant to disable windows defender when you install another AV (such as avast), but it needs to be off.

I'm unsure how the upgrade from win7 to win10 might have had an impact, given that win7 had windows defender but that wasn't a full blown AV. But the upgrade to win10 should have got that out and replaced with the win10 version of windows defender.

What version of win10 are you running ?
As far as I'm aware, the latest win10 version is 1607 build 14393.576. This assumes you aren't running any of the insider builds as some have experiences issues with these and 3rd party AVs.

I have only been using win10 for a few weeks so I'm not very clued up on it, hopefully one of the more experienced win10 users can jump in.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

I just checked this via running winver and it says it is Windows 10 Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.576) that I'm running.

May I ask if you already had Avast installed on your computer when you did the upgrade?
When I did the upgrade (in my case, I had Windows 8 to Windows 10), I already had Avast installed and after the upgrade, I ran into some serious problems, that only got fixed by clean installing Avsat again.

Actually, Avast was reinstalled after the computer was upgraded to Windows 10.

Was that a clean installation?

I'm using Avast Free Antivirus and didn't have any other AV(s) before that other than the Windows Defender that comes pre-installed with Windows 10.

Start a new topic in V&W and post your logs there: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=post;board=4
Um, what logs? If you mean from the Avast Clean Install, I may have to do it again since it has been a long while since I last done that.
