Is There an Avast User Manual Someplace Online?

Hi Everyone.  I'm new to Avast after using Norton's Anti-virus for
the past 4 years.  (It's not what it used to be!)

Does anyone know if there is an AVAST User's Manual which explains each option in the "On Access Protection Control" section better?
I just can't figure out what is meant by some of the options in the
customized settings... i.e. "Checking this box means your general
answer is NO."  No to what?  Yes to What?  HELP!

Also, most times when a complete scan is done, virus's are found within
certain Avast directories.  Today, 15 Avast subdirectories were infected.
I don't know if I should Delete them, or move them to the Chest.  Last
week I think I deleted some important infected files, because Internet
Explorer's History and Temp storage of webpages is no longer functioning.  (Can't tell which links I visited and every visit  to a page
loads from scratch.)

Sorry I went overboard on this subject.  Avast seems so promising, yet
it's not documented well enough for those of us who are novice computer users.  Maybe the Professional Edition is better in that regard?
Any advice and/or guidance is appreciated.   Happy Holidays everyone!

I was a Norton user for 4 years too...  :'( Now I'm fully happy here

What do you mean? Where you infected? Do you run a boot-time scan?
You can always try to send the files to Chest (as in Norton)... Better if you can clean the file...

Bert, Professional Edition has the same help files of the Home one. You can see more informations at the FAQ on-line (http://www.avast.com/i_kat_81.html) but, if you want my advice, the forums are the best place for anything you need

The speediness of your response took my breath away!

I've been toying around with some of the settings and am
getting the feel for how the product works overall.  It's just
knowing what choices to select that's difficult to comprehend.
No doubt, the answer lies here in this wonderful forum someplace.

In the Internet Mail Protection service, the Advanced Tab
has a Silent Mode (which is what I prefer) where one can
choose "YES" or "NO".    Can you tell me what YES will do
and NO will do, if a Virus is encountered in an E-mail?

Also, every day Avast finds infected files in an Avast Temp
directory.  I just move them to the chest, but the chest is
getting pretty full of them now.  Should I simply delete them?
How can I configure the scanner to move infections to the
chest automatically, if they can't be repaired automatically?
(That's the procedure I used with Norton's AV)  Once again,
the instructions only refer to "Yes" and "No" choices.
Here are two examples of the infected files in the Chest:

C:\Windows\Temp\_avast4_\unp10082
C:\Docume~1\Locals\Temp\_avast4_\unp29713\patch.exe  (UPX)

Why are only the AVast files in Temp directories being attacked
by the DUMAR32 virus on a daily basis?

You neglected to say WHERE the Help File is
located though.  

Since they're named after you, do we need a
password that you provide?

It is a "very unofficial" name for the help files but they can be located by right clicking on the scan splash screen or skin and selecting help from the menu or pressing the F1 key.  I'm not very good with instructions.  In other words, right clicking on the scan skin image or pressing the F1 key once the scan skin image is visible will take you to the help files.  Avast is unique with it's interface operation.

I would like to see a link to the help files by right clicking on the avast ball though.  hint hint.

The 'Silent mode' in the 'Internet Mail' was not meant to provide automatic actions with viruses. It's just the way to suppress every possible dialog box that might get displayed (e.g. on a server). The automatic virus action feature is available in the Pro version (even the conditional types: action1, if unsuccessful then action2 ...). However if you use the Silent mode, the behavior is: YES -> no action (keeps the mail infected), NO -> move to chest.

Viruses in _avast4_ folder: it seems to be a bug in avast's unpacker, I believe it's under research.

Bert, in this forum there is only one 'guru'. His name is Vlk   The others, like us, are just beginners  
I think vojtech has answered your questions. The automatic procedure is available only in the Pro version. But, manually, you can do the same (identical protection) in Home version. The 'self-infected' files of avast! are, of course, a bug but I thought this was corrected in the last major update  :'(
