Connect to server
« on: February 21, 2006, 02:20:03 AM »
I'm being patient.  Several months ago I began using Avast successfully.  Last month I got the red/orange popups saying I couldn't get the updates.  Trying to do so manually got the message that it couldn't connect to the server.  The friend who recommended Avast said his problems with it were usually solved by un- then re-installing.  I did this, and am having the same problem.  I have Windows 98SE, my server is Earthlink, and my browser is Firefox.  None of this has changed from when I first installed.  Please help.  Closing 5 boxes when first connecting (dialup) is annoying enough, but I want the protection.  Thanks.

What version of avast are you using Home/Pro ?
Are you still using the 60 day trial version ?
- if so you will need to register (Home version avast! 4 Home Registration) or purchase if using the Pro trial.

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow access for avast.setup ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

I registered the full version both times.
The problem should be in the firewall... See David's question...
