Can't delete win*.tmp from C:\Windows\Temp
« on: February 23, 2006, 12:24:15 AM »

Hi,

I have a lot of files starting with win*.tmp in C:\Windows\Temp and I can´t delete them.
I tried to erase them from Linux and from another PC connecting the hard disk as slave, but there appears rights error messages or right access errors.

Can anyone help me?

Use Unlocker application to delete them. (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml)
The DeleteFTP is another one (not free) for this.

I take it you have had no joy with Symantec's support ;D so your trying the avast anti-virus support forums ?

What error messages are you getting ?
You could try these for clearing temp files, etc. ClearProg - Temp File Cleaner or CCleaner - Temp File Cleaner, etc.

Also:
MoveOnBoot http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html or
Unlocker http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ is also good as it also has a few additional features to not only delete the files but stop any process that is stopping you from deleting a file.

Welcome to the forums, jpsmayor.    :)

Yes, at Avast forums, we users will help those who mistakenly use Norton/Symantec products.

The below is just a guess by me and I am no expert. Please get a second or third opinion before doing anything.

This may be your problem as Microsoft does not find winmfu.dll on it's site. ...

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winmfu32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winmfu32.dll

http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?q=winmfu32.dll&l=1&mkt=en-US&FORM=QBME1

Google only had one hit but I do not fully understand the languge even through the translated page but says it could be a possible virus/trojan.

http://www.google.com/search?q=winmfu32.dll&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1

If you happen to also have Avast on your computer, then your real problem is having 2 anti-virus programs. This does not work as one will interfer with the other. If you do not have Avast, I suggest that you dump Norton/Symantec quickly but use the removal tool at their site and the usual un-install does not work completely. Their programs leave many registry entries and other files that do not get removed. Then, install Avast.

Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.    :)

Thanks for your answer. I agree with you about the "rare" Windows file, so I deleted it. I'm going to change to Avast to test it.

Take care, NAV doesn't play well with other Avs and you would need to ensure it is fully uninstalled otherwise it can cause conflict with another AV. There are often remnants left after add remove programs. This is a program removal tool, which can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs (after using add remove rograms first):
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT

This could be useful in the future for an on-line analysis of your log file - HiJackThis Log file - On-line Analysis OR HiJackThis Log file - On-line Analysis 2
OR - Post your hijackthis-Log here for a diagnosis: tomcoyote.org/hjt
As and when you install avast, ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast).

This is hardly the same problem so it is no wonder that CCleaner isn't doing anything. I suggest you start your own thread so as not to confuse the issue here.

Include in that, the above information and (no need to swear) this:
- What OS are you using? is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
- What was the virus name, where was it found
  example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?
- What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Well I know 2 great ways to fix this problem, One is a sledge hammer and two is taking my pc to the local army range and blasting it with armour piercing bullets.

I will get the details later I have to walk the dog

Hi Zigma,

A new thread would've been better as david said, but since you're here now:

First try a boot time scan with avast! (Right click on the scanner screen and select 'schedule a boot time scan'- set the default action to move to chest if you have a cordless keyboard because it won't work during the scan.)

After that, download, install, update and scan with the following programs, preferably in safe mode (tap F8 while booting.)
