Avast is down, restarting it and pc not working
« on: January 23, 2017, 11:13:48 AM »
I've been using Avast Free for quite some time.

The laptop I'm having issues with is running Vista. Another laptop running it doesn't have any issues.

Basically, the laptop spends long periods asleep, a couple of days to up to a week or so. I woke up it up from sleep and saw that the interface was new but I'm seeing the following message.

Quote
Avast is down

Something has gone wrong, and we're unable to protect you. Please try restarting your Avast.

I tried that when connected to WiFi and when disconnected. To no avail.

Then this message.

We're having trouble restarting your Avast. If this issue persists,  please restart your PC, or contact our support.
I've tried restarting Avast without success. I tried restarting my laptop. It's an old laptop and I'm getting a new desktop within a month or two bit until then, I do use it for browsing so I'd like to get this problem fixed.

I'd like some help uninstalling, the proper way and I'd Iike to know if this beta version is the only one I can install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Perform a repair of avast and see if it solves the problem > https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204
If not perform a clean install the latest avast > https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=189836.0

Thanks Eddy. :)

The repair didn't work but the clean install did.
