What do I do with 'decompression bomb'?
« on: January 25, 2017, 02:41:39 AM »
I just ran a virus scan on my C: drive and there were four files which Avast said 'could not be scanned'.  I opened up the message box listing these files and two of them are marked as Error: This file is a decompression bomb (42110).  The other two are marked Error: The system cannot find the path specified.

The file name for the decompression bombs is
c:\Windows\installer\36544f8.msi\|>ISChainPackageData.Pkg1.FC090DD0110FE64E10DF55A94DFF3887|>01AdminExecuteSequence|>09  followed by a bunch of random symbols.

The second D.B. file is the same except it says Pkg 2 and has a different set of letters and numbers.

I ran this virus check because my computer has been very VERY slow when booting up and at times after it's been running for a while and I'm in the middle of using it.  I suspect these decompression bombs are to blame??

So, am I right and if so, what can be done to fix it?

Thank you.

How do I handle files that Avast can’t scan?

Error: The system cannot find the path specified.
This error is usually gone if you reboot and scan again

Error: This file is a decompression bomb (42110).
Just mean a highly compressed file and the scan engine will not unpack and scan it
In your case it seems like windows update files

Thank you for your response.

This is my first time using a message board like this. I am getting the hang of how to do things.
Thanks for your help.
