New network found
« on: February 05, 2017, 07:54:50 PM »
Since I installed a new router for my AT&T Uverse system, Avast pops-up the message "new network found" for about four different network-related items. This happens every time I start my PC. My responses to the pop-up, that the connections are safe, don't have any effect. Is there a setting I can make to Avast to tell it that these "networks" are safe, and that I don't need to be notified over & over? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi,

In the Avast user interface:

Avast - Firewall - Settings - Network profiles - uncheck " Show notifications for automatic profile switching ".
Windows 10 Home 64-bit • Avast Free (latest stable version) •  Malwarebytes 4 Premium (On-Demand) • Windows Firewall Control • Google Chrome • LastPass • CCleaner • O&O ShutUp10 •

Hi Ali

I tried that change before, but it didn't fix the problem. Now, when I click on the icon to open Avast, the splash screen displays for a second, then disappears. Any idea why I can't run Avast from the desktop icon?

Since Avast wouldn't start from the desktop icon, I used Control Panel to Repair the installation. After a restart, Avast is now working. But in the Firewall settings the  "Show notifications for automatic profile switching" box is unchecked. Even so, it pops up several times a day to let me know that it has found a new network, and set it to Private. This seems to be a glitch. I have manually set all networks to private, even though they are connected to the public internet. Any other ideas?
