I see that the New Avast (I am using 17.1.2286 build 17.1.3394.46) automatically updates the virus definitions.  It occurs to me that I wouldn't have had all the trouble with yesterday's "false positive" database if my computer had not automatically downloaded the new definition database, so I would like to know how to disable it so that I can wait 2 weeks before downloading any new definitions so that Avast has time to work out the kinks :/

I am currently in the process of restoring hundreds of quarantined files..... One.  At.  A.  Time.!!!!!
Did you do a full scan after the update that had the problem ???

Of course I did, but what's in the virus chest remains in the virus chest.  The extraction of this is still painful, and I wish it had not happened.  It makes me want to hang up VP all together.

I upgraded from the earlier version of Avast (paid) the system did not adopt my previous scheduled scan settings.  I found one location through the interface to allow me to create a custom scan but so far it hasn't actually run a daily scheduled scan.

What do I do now.

On a more personal level I dislike having to relearn a new interface every time an application is upgraded and I dislike applications that don't appear to function, if you can't schedule a scan is the application actually working.

You're welcome.

I have run my first boot-time scan (avast 12.3.2280) on this win10 laptop - it took longer, than my XP system - didn't find anything as expected.

Crucially it did place an entry in the Scan History, so it certainly looks like a limitation of XP that avast can't create the Scan History entry.

Hello once again, thank you for ur awesome efforts, You stated it crucially placed a entry within the scan history on ur windows 10 system, so your other system where you did multiple scans it didnt place a scan record within the scan history? Does this mean its a bug?

Thank you

I don't believe it is a bug as such, more a limitation of windows XP, but it still creates the aswBoot.text report. So you at least have the data information but not in a graphical layout.

I dont know if the others are just as confused as me. But you clearly wrote its a limitation of windows xp? Sorry but if windows xp has a limitation of not recording the boot time scan on the scan history section of avast, what is that got to do with windows 10? The other person whom shares the same issue as me is on a windows 10 machine. The problem is the boot time scan is not creating a log in a windows 10 machine not a windows xp machine, and Asyn has posted a image of which shows the Boot time scan is logged within the scan history section, his log of the boot time scan is registered on a windows 8 machine based on his machine specs written in the foot note of his comments. So i don't understand why your testing on a windows xp machine and then saying the reason it does not create a log is because of a windows xp limitation. That makes no sense, the previous versions of avast did indeed record a log in the scan history section as i re installed a older version of avast yesterday and tested it on my windows 10 machine and the log can clearly be seen on the image i have posted. But soon as i install the newer version of avast the log is not recorded.

This topic isn't just about win10 but about this 17.2.2286 update, it is about all supported OSes.

You need to read further back, as this was a communication between Asyn (that is why I quoted him.

Some were asking if the scan history entry was created I reported that it wasn't creating a Scan History. Asyn said it was in win10.  After further investigation I/we determined that the fact it wasn't creating a scan history entry was because it is apparently a limitation of XP. So it is about confirming that some OSes (XP) won't create a scan history entry.

Hi bob3160, thanks for the video clip, I was trying to set a custom scan which didn't seem to function.  I wait with bated breath to see if my scan runs on schedule.

I still dont think you understand the issue here, the issue is the log is not being made on windows 10 OS, why are u mentioning windows xp? XP has nothing to do with the issue, as Asyn said the log is created in the scan history section of avast in a windows 10 machine BUT THREE PEOPLE have confirmed it is not. So your statement here:

"This topic isn't just about win10 but about this 17.2.2286 update, it is about all supported OSes." And you said "So it is about confirming that some OSes (XP) won't create a scan history entry."

These statements are contradictory since you saying certain OSes wont record the log and only mention XP? if that was the case why is it Asyn has a log in his windows 10 machine yet three people dont on the same windows 10 OS? This is not certain (OSes) as you call it but a issue with windows 10. I proved the previous verison of avast did indeed record the log i even attached a pic. So its not the OSes as you claim. I dont know why ur emphasis is on (Oses) when u clearly talking about xp not recording the log IF YOU WERE TO test the older version of avast on WINDOWS 10 you will see a log. YOU CLEARLY stated a windows xp machine wont create a log. The issue IS NOT WITH WINDOWS XP its with windows 10.
...

Sorry I am not being rude, please forgive me if i am. Here is a simplified version of the issue, as windows XP has no bases on on the issue:

1) Three windows 10 machines not login the scan

2) Asyn has a pic of the log being recorded on a windows 10 machine.

Clearly there is a bug if asyn claims there is a log being made on the windows 10 machine yet three people dont have the log the test you did on windows xp is pointless as the issue is ON A WINDOWS 10 MACHINE.

I'm using Windows 8.1 and I also don't get a boot time scan entry in the scan history; this is with build 17.1.3394.46 of Avast Internet Security.  Worked fine with previous version.

Simple, install what you need. Don't understand why you bought Internet Security if you want not use those features.
