Avast 17.1.2286
« on: February 07, 2017, 12:56:29 PM »
Good news, everyone!

We’re happy to announce that our newest AVAST Antivirus (17.1.2286) was born today.
It’s been a while since our last release in August, but we’ve been working hard to make this a substantial update packed with new features.

What's new:

- Improved user interface - simplified navigation, new brand colors, notification center

- Behavior Shield - better protects you against ransomware by monitoring running programs for suspicious behavior

- Game mode - helps reduce distractions and lag times by automatically prioritizing your game’s performance and suspending all unnecessary background notifications and processes while you play

- Free version no longer requires email registration

- Performance improvements - faster webpage loading and app launching thanks to optimized hashing algorithms

- Wi-Fi Inspector - previously called Home Network Security, this feature now detects even more problems and vulnerabilities on both home and public networks

- Passwords - faster UI and improved browser integration

- Real Site - our new name for SecureDNS, which prevents DNS hijacking to help you avoid visiting fake websites

- SafeZone browser - common settings for all modes, faster startup of bank mode, currency converter

How to install:

1. Update from your existing Avast version via Settings -> Update -> Update program

2. Or you can download and install from here

I upgraded from Avast Internet Security (Previous Version) to this version and the only setting that was changed was Scan for PUP's. I had to re enable it, but other than that there was no problem.

As i can see that the whole Avast team is currently watching on this thread, i would like to congratulate you on this release, only minor issues have left and i can't see big bugs, but be sure to check the last BETA thread as there is still some issues to take a look at.

The GUI is not the best but it is good and useful and with a little of tweaking and some releases through your brand new GUI update channel will be OK. Next things you should work on is a special antiransomware module, because this is the only kind of threat for which you have to protect instead of remediate. Think of that module not as behavior analysis but as enforced rules with some GUI for the user to manage them. The ID Protection i think should work for exploit and fileless malware. Be sure to enhance CyberCapture with more vectors (you know, not only web). And i would be happy if you finally bring back the removed ELAM from AVG. Keep it up team.  ;D ;)

Installed on one of my machines to test.

Preferred the old version... now a disappointing GUI.

As follows:

- Had to reselect PUPs. If I didn't read this forum would have missed PUP removal...
- Slows down boot up and connection to net.
- "There are a couple of things to fix"... like what? Clicked on this, reboots, nothing happens. Explain.
- "Run Full Virus Scan" - slow to load, after 16 minutes still at 0%. Is this a loop or what? Prefer to see individual files being scanned so I know it is actually working.

I will hold off putting it on my main PC for a while.

OK, updated over previous beta and found settings window is now a bit smaller ;D
The OK and Cancel button barely fit my 1366x768 display, nice.

"NEW: Avast Beta 17.1.2286"

Confusing for users.
Beta and final with the same build number :-\

No chance of it (730X762) fitting on my 1024X600 netbook then.

What is the problem allowing resizing of the interface and or allowing scrolling (as they have done with some other windows) ?

Yes they have, which is all the more strange that they have left this as it was despite requests to reduce the size.

I have been banging this drum from when avast first introduced this confusing issue (for users) on no incremental update from beta to to RTM. Only to be told that they go with the build number, which users don't seem to get.
