Is there a forum with this theme in Russian ? please tell me where to find. If not I'll try in English. The second day I can not update the free avast to version 17.1.2286. I have a personal computer with the official Win 10 64, all updates installed. Your company is preparing a hotfix to the update package 17.1.2286 ? What to do: wait for corrections if they will either clean the system from Avast and install the new one ( it can't be installed ?) or try something else? Can You provide any technical information about the hardware or software of my computer.

Got the same problem today with vista sp2 (updated Avast on another computer running Windows 7 no problem). It was exactly the same the last time Avast updated his program (last august I think). They had to update the new release and then it worked fine. So I hope they realize that people are having problem under vista with this release and will correct it

lukor,

The problems I was/am seeing are on a 32-bit Vista machine.  I can access a UI from the tray icon (right-click, 'About Avast'), but the launch of the 'User Interface' results in a blank white box that is difficult to get rid of.

Visit filehippo.com and download an earlier version.  Don't update to latest

If that helps to someone, this is the way I solved the problem (Windows Vista Home Premium SP2):

 1) Uninstall Avast using Control Panel features.
 2) Reboot sysyem
 3) Dowload avastclear.exe from Avast web to desktop
 4) Reboot system in secure mode (pressing F8)
 5) Execute avastclear.exe from desktop
 6) Reboot
 7) Delete "AVAST Software" directory (even if it was empty).
 8) Download Avast Free Antivirus from Avast web

May be it were enough 1,2,8 or 3,4,5,6,8 or ... but ...!

Have a good luck and thanks a lot for all of you!

I just wanted to chime in. I'm running Win 7 64bit SP1 with the latest updates, and noticed the slide out notification saying avast needed to reboot due to an update.
Uh, I had updates set to manual TYVM.
And of course, upon updating and logging in, I was met with a solid color background with only my mouse cursor, I couldn't even ctrl alt del.
So after waiting about 15 mins, I had to do a hard reboot. I could get into windows, but avast kept complaining it couldn't load the GUI now and then, and that the AV service had stopped.
SO I repaired..and it kept saying I needed to restart.
I restarted THREE TIMES, and it kept saying the same thing in the main program window.
So I did the uninstall/clear/install, and now it seems ok.
Seriously guys, I have had issues with new versions before, that's why I usually wait awhile before installing, to see if anyone else has problems.
I don't appreciate the headache and wasted time/
And I also don't appreciate popups for your other products AFTER I'VE PAID FOR ONE OF THEM.
