Strange because it's not the same service (for win xp) to enable between avg support(terminal service) and avast support(Remote Desktop Services)  ???
For my winxp , the issue was only on terminal service .

It also mentions BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Services) and as far as I can recall this is only used for windows updates (long dead in XP).
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

The windows updates are still (a little) available for some xp users (Posready). ;)
But this is not the question, the avast support would not have helped my xp to get out of "UI failed to load" because it does not speak at all about the  terminal service , no more about BITS ... while AVG support does.

My only thoughts are that they have used one page setup as the template for the others and modified those that needed it, but messed up on the XP page.

We agree, that's what I think too. :)
avast support has messed up where AVG support has not .
still some efforts for avast and avg to be a single company  ;D

I don't think it will be a single entity for some time yet, doing that too soon could annoy sets of users.

David is correct. Those aren't the plans for some time to come. (Years)

it was a joke  ;)
moreover I never said nor thought that avast and avg would merge .... tomorrow
We all know that the world was not made in one day

my initial intervention was just to report false avast support information specifically for xp users.

sometimes, it is better not to have information at all than to have wrong information,, especially since in this case "UI failed to load", we (you) have given on this forum the resolution of the problem long time ago.

For me the following resolved the problem (based on http://www.getavast.net/support/compatibility-windows-10)

1- Add new user account to Windows

Another solution which helped some users is creating a new local user account in Windows. If you are not sure how to do it, follow the instructions below:

Right-click on the Start menu icon and select ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’
Enter ‘net user [username] [password] /add’ where username and password is the name and password of the new account. For example ‘net user Paul P4ssw0rd! /add’
Alternatively you can create a new user from the Control Panel:

Open Windows Run dialog by simultaneously pressing Windows key on your keyboard and ‘R’
Enter ‘control userpasswords2’ into Windows Run dialog and confirm
User Accounts window will open. Click on ‘Add…’
Sign-in window will open. Click on ‘Sign in without a Microsoft account’ at the bottom of the screen
Add a user window will open. Click on ‘Local account’ at the bottom of the screen
Enter the user details for the new account, click on ‘Next’ and ‘Finish’

2- Reinstall AVAST from the local account (after a clean uninstall with avastclear.exe)

@JNL
Just to clarify, you are describing fixing a Microsoft problem.

So, we have to change the Remote Desktop Services from its default Manual setting to Automatic?

Depends on your OS, reread the FAQ.

That's exactly what I did.
