Hi, sorry for the trouble. We will fix it in next version. There is a workaroung how to get to the settings via tray icon->About.

Yeah, I have the same problem.

I'm using the "AltWindowDrag" utility as a work-around to get to the bottom of the first Avast window and bring up the settings window - which you can indeed re-size.

Why not make the first window resizable as well?

Thanks MartinZ, Alan41238584, and all,

Thanks for suggestions - tray icon 'workaround' will suffice for now! :)

I'll look forward to proper 'fix' in next version with pleasure. :D

Kinda surprised this 'howler' slipped under the radar though?  Having Beta tested for a couple of FOSS progs over the years basic UI sizing and accessibility from all likely platforms and OS' is pretty much testing 101 and shouldn't even get to RC version?  Hmm...

Thanks for also for 'AltWindowDrag' utility suggestion - will investigate.

IMO Netbooks are still great fun but slow Atom chip and Intel's regrettable hard limit to max 2GB Ram really needs lightweight, minimal AV.  Avast previous version was just right.

The main screen cannot be resized.  I spoke with AVAST and that is what it is according to the support person.  There is at least 1 sub screen that can be resized.  Your only option would be to change your "personalization settings.

How exactly?

AFAIAA you can't 'personalize' more pixels out of thin air - max screen resolution is whatever it is.

On most Netbooks that is 1024 x 600 pixels - new Avast 17 main screen is 768 pixels or more high = poco problemo! Grrrr!

This howler has been around for years and I've been hurting my head banging it on this brick wall. Worse still is the off-line installation file it is even bigger and not resizeable.

There is actually a way (hack) to do that I raised my Acer Aspire One to 1024X768 or 1152X862 (from the default 1024X600), it looks like crap but for a short time it gets the job done and you can switch back.

Bob3160 told me how some time ago, but I forgot exactly how I did it.

Thanks for joining us Bob.

That certainly looks like the method I used (on my win7 netbook) and worked well for the large avast installation window. I just hadn't documented it for future reference. It's a good job you keep all of your old video clips.

Hopefully this will help NetbookUser with his problem, at least until avast do something about the massive UI and installation screen.

It doesn't fix the Avast size problem it simple changes your devices resolution so that it's able to accept the large Avast UI. :)
There's always more than one way to fix any problem. :)

Thanks to Avast Team for promised "proper" fix! :)

Today's update to Program version: 17.3.2290 (build 17.3.3443.0) has lovely new main window that neatly fits on my old Netbook's (Acer Aspire One) default 1024x600 max native screen resolution.

The 'Settings' menu is once more on screen - no more workaround!

Thanks again,

BZ

Hi,

That's good to hear.

PS: This was fixed in 17.3.2288.

Hmm!  Not quite sure what happened with earlier fix in 17.3.2288 - maybe I just failed to notice and kept on using workaround - certainly noticed today as reboot required so was forced to look at main window again!

Never mind - all's well that ends well. :D

PS.  If only could say the same for Brexit.  A Remorseful Day, a new Black Wednesday. :(
